Antigo Area Weekend Activities

It's Valentine's weekend in the northwoods, bringing a mix of opportunities for dining and entertainment.

It's also time for a benefit for Becky Kelm-Hilger, a spaghetti feast at the Elks, and more.

A look at activities, taken from the advertising columns, follows:

VALENTINE'S DAY

There's more to love at Country Kitchen today. Specials, served from 4 to 8 p.m., include king or queen cut prime rib, sirloin and shrimp, jumbo shrimp, spaghetti and homemade meatballs, and chicken Alfredo. The all-you-can-eat dessert bar will include chocolate-dipped strawberries.

Vickie and the Vets will host a Valentine's dinner and free live music on Saturday. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. with a choice of prime rib, shrimp, tenderloin and shrimp, or poor man's lobster, all served with choice of potatoes or wild rice, dinner roll and large salad bar. Mia Brown and Co. will offer live music from 8 to 11 p.m. Call 715 623-5810 for reservations.

Two Angels Family Restaurant will offer Cupid's best shot Friday serving ribeye steak and shrimp with potato, vegetable, and soup or salad.

Enjoy dinner out tonight at Luigi's Pizza and Pasta. Choose from surf and turf specials and Italian favorites along with heart-shaped chocolate dessert cake.

Swartzendruber's Supper club plans Valentine's specials all weekend, including ultimate surf and turf for two. It includes two heart-shaped ribeye steaks and two lobster tails plus dessert. Other specials include the Friday night seafood buffet and Sunday brunch. Reservations are appreciated. Call 715 627-7027.

Melody Mill in Aniwa will offer its full menu on Friday along with prime rib, ribeye and lots of other Valentine's specials.

Fifth Avenue Restaurant and Lounge will be serving Sue's famous homemade lobster bisque for lunch today Dinner specials, starting at 6:30 p.m., will include cowboy ribeye steak, topped with a sauté of Nueske's bacon, mushrooms and Asiago cheese or haddock Oscar featured a crab and asparagus Hollandaise sauce.

bbJack's will serve a series of Valentine's Day special tonight, plus offer a chance to win a gift basket. Enjoy a chocolate martini, chocolate strawberries or cheesecake and, for an entree, choose from the regular menu or a steak and shrimp combo or heart-shaped pizza. Receive one ticket per person to be entered to sin a gift basket filled with Valentine's goodies. The contest is open to those 21 years and older.

BENEFIT

#BeckyStrong!, a benefit for Becky Kelm-Hilger, will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at North Star Lanes in Antigo.

Kelm-Hilger, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and is currently fighting a battle with cancer. Her illness requires treatment away from her home in Antigo. She lost her husband, Dom, to brain cancer in 2017. They have three young children. She has successfully completed her first cycle of treatment and will be starting the second.

For Saturday's benefit, auction items include several vacation rentals, local and away, an ice auger, a guided fishing tour, multiple sports tickets, a GoPro, Apple watch, Nintendo Switch as well as other prizes.

To donate, a GoFundMe page under Becky Hilger has been set up. An account has been established at CoVantage Credit Union in Antigo.

SPAGHETTI

The Antigo Elks Club will offer an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner on Monday, 5 to 7 p.m., at the lodge on Clermont Street.

Enjoy spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, hot garlic bread plus ice cream, coffee and milk.

And don't forget the Sartori cheese.

HISTORY, THE ARTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is open Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St. The society is in the midst of a major fundraising campaign to install an elevator and make other necessary and aesthetic improvements. Stop by the museum to pick up a brochure.

The White Lake Area Historical Society operates the Depot Museum and Historical Center in White Lake. Hours are Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MOVIES

Now showing at the Palace Twin Theater are “Birds of Prey,” rated R, and “Sonic the Hedgehog” rated PG.

OTHER EVENTS

Wednesday is Sammy Day at Taco John's. The Antigo and Wittenberg locations will be donating a portion of sales in honor of employee Samuel Egging, who was killed in a car accident on Dec. 19. Per his family wishes, proceeds will be donated to the Wittenberg Charger football team, of which he was so proud to be a member.
