Langseth pleased, Robins place third at Marshfield Invite

The Antigo gymnastics team traveled to Marshfield for an invitational this past Saturday.  The Robins, with an altered lineup, were able to finish third as a team with a final score of 123.875.

“Today was a great day for us,” head coach Julie Langseth said.  “We only had three falls on beam between varsity and JV, and our hard work is starting to pay off.  I am very proud of these girls.”

On the balance beam, senior Maggie Winter had the best routine for the Robins, earning a score of 8.00, good for a 9th place finish.  Andrea Shestak wasn't far behind Winter in 11th place with a score of 7.750. Following Shestak were Kaley Zarda in 19th with a 7.00, Marina Lis in 21st with a 6.900, and Ava Fuller in 26th with a 5.900.

Next on floor, Zarda was Antigo's top finisher, tied for 10th place with a score of 8.400, followed immediately by Winter's 8.350, tied for 12th place.  Following those scores were Shestak in 16th with an 8.00, and Lis in 20th with a 7.700.

On vault, Winter was back on top with a score of 8.325 for the Robins, in 13th place overall.  Shestak finished in 16th again on vault with an 8.175, followed by Zarda and Lis back-to-back in 19th and 20th place with scores of 8.00, and 7.975, respectively.

On the fourth and final event for Antigo, Winter had her highest finish in the day, earning an eighth-place finish with a score of 8.150.  Shestak finished second for the squad once again, in 15th place overall and a score of 7.550. Zarda and Lis finished together, tied for 19th place with two scores of 6.800.  Sophomore Sarah Stickney rounded out Antigo's varsity bar squad, tied for 21st with a 6.700.

Captain Maggie Winter also was Antigo's highest all-around finisher, claiming an eighth place finish with a combined score of 32.825.  Shestak and Zarda finished in 11th and 12th place with scores of 31.471, and 30.200, respectively. Lis, Antigo's fourth all-arounder, finished the day with a 29.375, ending in 15th place.

Antigo also had several junior varsity competitors in Marshfield on Saturday.  The JV competition for the Robins was highlighted by a win on floor exercise by freshman Ava Fuller, who scored a 7.900.  Hannah WIlliams also finished in the top five on beam, finishing fifth with a score of 6.900.

As a team, Antigo finished third behind Marshfield, who won the meet with a score of 137.050, and Milton, who finished second with a score of 33.700.

The Antigo girls will compete next this Saturday, Feb. 15 in Ashland for an invitational beginning at 10:15 a.m.
