Losch and Boyer with hat tricks as Edge routs Medford
space
The Northern Edge girls hockey team put the boots to Medford for the second time this season, using a five-goal first period to rout the Raiders on Monday night, 8-1 in Rhinelander.

The Edge needed just one minute and 41 seconds to take the lead in the contest, thanks to Isabella Boyer, who got things started with an unassisted goal.

Less than two minutes later it was Evelyn LeVeque finding the back of the net, assisted by Madi Losch for a 2-0 advantage.

From there, it was Losch simply taking over, as the Rhinelander senior scored back-to-back unassisted goals to give her team a big 4-0 lead.

Kristina Kulnelius, a Lakeland freshman, added the period's final tally, assisted by Boyer and Wyndi Saari at the 14:47 mark.

The Edge pushed the lead to 6-0 in the early stages of the second period thanks to Boyer's second score of the game, with Emily Kassler and Losch providing helpers.

The goal came via the power play and was one of three special teams opportunities for the Northern Edge on the night.

Medford got on the board at the 7:39 mark of the second courtesy of Emily Schafer and the 6-1 lead carried over into the third period.

Boyer completed her hat trick just 2:23 into the frame with her third goal and Losch did the same at the 6:46 mark with an assist from Boyer, completing a big night for the pair.

Boyer and Losch both finished with five points, coming on a hat trick and two assists.

Northern Edge goaltender Alicia Turunen stopped 22 of 23 Medford shots for the win in goal, with the Antigo-Rhinelander-Lakeland squad holding a 48-23 advantage in shots.

Medford goalies Alex Nicks and Sauge Duesing split time in net, with Nicks making 14 saves before being pulled after the first. Duesing stopped 26 Northern Edge shots.

The Edge improves to 5-5 overall with the win, while Medford falls 4-10 on the season.

The Northern Edge will next host Chippewa Falls Friday night in Antigo, part of the annual “Hockey Days” celebration, beginning at 6 p.m.
