Blue Canvas Orchestra plans return holiday appearance in Antigo Dec. 8
space
Following a sold-out performance here in 2018, the acclaimed Blue Canvas Orchestra returns to Antigo to share the sounds of the holiday on Dec. 8.

The concert, which features Bayfield's Big Top Chautauqua's eight-piece house band, will begin at 4 p.m.

New this year, local musicians will set up in the high school cafeteria at 3 p.m. leading early arrivals with Christmas carols for everyone to enjoy. Many of the musicians will be on stage the following week, Sunday, Dec. 15, at 4 p.m. when the Community Band and Of Chorus present their concert.

Under the direction of Ed Willett, the Blue Canvas Orchestra will offer a seasonal musical performance that's bound to fill everyone's hearts with holiday cheer.

“We've put together a show that has enough new material to be intriguing and enough of what people enjoyed last year to be satisfying,” Willett said. “We've got a foot stomping Bluegrass version of a classic Christmas round, a comic four part a capella tune that gives audiences most of their favorite carols all in just over one minute, a new version of the Cat Stevens' classic Peace Train, and a roof-raising original gospel arrangement of Joy to the World among many others.”

Those who were in the audience last year will be happy to hear that Yazmin Bowers will once again be gracing the stage on piano and accordion.

“This year we're bringing her front and center where she will certainly show us how it's done,” Willett said. In addition to all that we've got a featured guest performer this year who we've snagged in the down time between his international tours. He's a drummer extraordinaire and we urge you to come experience his artistry.”

Tickets are $15 in advance and are available at Neve's Furniture & Flooring, Green Hen Natural Living or on line at Ticketsbigtop.org.

A limited number of tickets may be available at the door on standby based on available seating.

The Blue Canvas Christmas Concert is sponsored by Music in the Park, Antigo Music Association, CoVantage Credit Union, Aspirus Langlade Hospital, Johnson Electric Coil, Volm Companies, Green Hen Natural Living, Neve's Furniture and everyone purchasing tickets.
