It's not quite Christmas but for hunters and shoppers it comes close.

The opening weekend of the gun deer season will send hunters into the woods and bargain lovers into the stores, with only a brief pause on Thursday for Thanksgiving traditions.

And local retailers are responding with deals on everything from dining and crafts to new side-by-sides and trucks.

A look at events, featuring Antigo Daily Journal advertisers, follows:

CRAFT SHOWS

Colleen's Craft Shed, 517 Clermont St., will hold a holiday open house on Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be candle specials along with hand-sewn Raggedy Annies, primitive and seasonal items, raffles and free cookies and coffee.

Antigo United Methodist Church, 2034 Fifth Ave., plans its Christmas bazaar on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bakery, crafts, gifts, Christmas Past and more will be available. Enjoy barbecues and baked potatoes with toppings for lunch.

North Star Lanes on Antigo's north side will host its annual widows weekend holiday craft and vendor show on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come for the shopping and enjoy cookies and the hot chocolate bar.

Stop by Quinn's Hall in Neva Corners Saturday for a Country Craft Fair featuring an array of handmade items. The doors open at 9 a.m. and lunch will be served. There will be lots of great gifts and treasures.

Need to stock up on some Avon products for yourself or as gifts? Stop by 315 S. Clermont St. on Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It's all cash and carry and there will be door prizes too,

LICENSE TO SHOP

Schroeder's is giving hunters' widows a “license to shop” this weekend, with a coupon for 25 percent off any one regularly-priced item now through Sunday.

Neve's Floors to Go, Furniture & Mattress Gallery downtown is having a Black Friday sale. The doorbuster deals include Harringtom queen mattresses for just $99. There's much more as well, including window and floor coverings, furniture and even 82-inch televisions.

Antigo Country Store is offering Ladies Day bargains through Dec. 1. Get 15 percent off spinners, chimes, metal bird statuary, wooden toys, games and art supplies and all wild bird feeders, birdbaths and birdhouses.

After the shopping Saturday, head east to Four Corners Assembly of God, Highway 64 and County P, White Lake, for its pig roast building project fund-raiser. It runs from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church.

There will be food, raffles, silent auctions and live music from 4;30 to 7 p.m.

OPENING WEEKEND

As some take to the stores and craft shows this weekend, others are taking to the woods for the opening of the nine-day gun deer season.

Held's will open at 11 a.m. daily during the hunt except for Thursday, when it will unlock at 3 p.m. Stop in for homemade soups and chili.

FOR THE HOLIDAYS

This Christmas, remember someone special with a Love Light. Blue, white and red group lights are on sale now in the hospital lobby, with funds earmarked for LeRoyer Hospice and other Hospital Auxiliary projects.

The city of Antigo Park and Recreation Department is once again hosting the annual Winter Wonderland, featuring life-sized holiday cards, in the Peaceful Valley Festival Grounds. THANKSGIVING

Mole Lake Casino-Lodge-Conference Center northeast of Antigo serving its Thanksgiving dinner buffet Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Koni K's Family Restaurant in Elcho will feature a Thanksgiving brunch buffet on Thursday. It will include turkey, ham, broasted chicken, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, pumpkin bars and some breakfast items.

Arbutus Lutheran Church will host the area's annual Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Al are welcome and a goodwill offering will be accepted.

Linda's Truck Stop Restaurant will be open for breakfast only on Thursday, 5 to 10 a.m.

Crab 'N Jack's in Langlade will host a Thanksgiving buffet on Thursday, noon to 3 p.m., and dinner, 3 to 6 p.m. Traditional-style favorites will be served, including orange glazed duck. Call 715 882-8611 for reservations.

Melody Mill in Aniwa will be open for Thanksgiving, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Enjoy a turkey dinner with all the trimmings or choose from the full menu. Reservations are suggested for larger groups Call 715 449-2000.

Two Angels Family Restaurant will serve baked ham, baked chicken and roast turkey on Thursday, a true feast for Thanksgiving. The regular menu will also be available. Hours are 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Visit Swartzendruber's Supper Club for a bountiful Thanksgiving buffet, served from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature traditional roast turkey and choice top beef round, broasted chicken, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, vegetables, cranberry salad, salad bar and dessert table featuring pumpkin pie. Reservations are accepted.

Several popular dining spots and businesses will be closed on Thanksgiving Day to allow staff to spend time with their loved ones. They include Luigi's, Country Kitchen, The Nutshell, Insight Fast Stop, Heartbreakers Bar and Grill, and The Dixie Lunch.

HISTORY, THE ARTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is open Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St. The Society is in the midst of a major fundraising campaign to install an elevator and make other necessary and aesthetic improvements. Stop by the museum to pick up a brochure.

Antigo Visual Arts fall 2019 fall show, "Autumn's Blessings," features 70 pieces of original artwork. It will hang in the Langlade County Historical Museum gallery through Nov. 28.

The White Lake Area Historical Society operates the Depot Museum and Historical Center in White Lake. Hours are Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

THEATER

The Wabeno Players present “Farce of Habit” tonight at 7 p.m., Saturday at 1 and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. . at Madonna Hall in Wabeno.
