Antigo Area Weekend Activities

It's the final weekend of October, a time to celebrate the harvest, Halloween and much more.

Check out today's front page for a rundown of Halloween fun for the youngsters and adults, including the big Optimist bash on Sauurday and trickor-treat hours throughout the area.

A look at other events, featuring Antigo Daily Journal advertisers, follows:

HARVEST FAIR

SS. Mary and Hyacinth Parish will present its Harvest Fair Saturday and Sunday.

Events kick off Saturday with the 4 p.m. Mass featuring music by the Stone Soup Brothers. The prelude starts at 3:30 p.m.

Afterwards, there will be a plate lunch featuring hot turkey or barbecue sandwiches with chips and beverage for $5. Activity rooms will also be open.

On Sunday, the Mass opens the day at 7 a.m. with activity rooms open from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

A roast beef dinner will be served starting at 11 a.m. It will include mashed potatoes and gravy, sauerkraut with pork, vegetable, cole slaw, bread/dinner rolls, beverage and choice of apple or pumpkin pie, all for $9. Hot dog plates will also be available for $3.

There will be something for everyone, including bakery and candy, silent auction, raffles, crafts, country store, Grandma's Attic, surprise packages, games, and bangles, beads and bags. Raffle drawings are set for 1:30 p.m.

HARVEST DINNER

St. Matthew Lutheran Church in White Lake will hold its harvest dinner on Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

The menu will include beef and pork, sauerkraut, potatoes, vegetables, salad bar and desserts. Cost is $10 for adults and $4 for children under 12.

Bring a nonperishable item for the White Lake Christian Food Pantry.

SECRET GARDEN

Antigo Community Theatre will present “The Secret Garden” beginning one week from today.

The abridged, family friendly length of the original, award winning musical will be staged at the Antigo High School's Volm Theater on Nov. 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 9 at 7 p.m. with a Sunday matinee on Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children up to 18. They are now on sale at Neve's Floors to Go, Furniture & Mattress Gallery at 710 Fifth Ave.

JAZZ

The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Jazz Ensemble will perform Thursday in the Nancy Volk Auditorium at Wabeno High School.

The show is sponsored by The Wabeno Area Players as part of its Fine Arts Series. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

HISTORY, THE ARTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is open Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St. The Society is in the midst of a major fundraising campaign to install an elevator and make other necessary and aesthetic improvements. Stop by the museum to pick up a brochure.

Antigo Visual Arts fall 2019 fall show, "Autumn's Blessings," features 70 pieces of original artwork. It will hang in the Langlade County Historical Museum gallery through Nov. 28.

The White Lake Area Historical Society operates the Depot Museum and Historical Center in White Lake. Hours are Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MOVIES

Now showing at the Palace Twin Theater are “The Addams Family Halloween,” rated PG, and “Downton Abbey,” also rated PG.

OTHER EVENTS

The HeART Program offers a range of senior technology help. It includes Tech Tuesdays on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Antigo Public Library.

CoVantage Credit Union will host two programs on nursing home and estate planning on Monday at 10 a.m. and 5;30 p.m. in the community room located on the lower level of the main office. Call 715 627-4336, extension 2288 to register.

Aspiring Women will present “Living Your Best Life,” Wednesday at North Star Lanes. Registration with a cash bar, light meal, dessert and free gift will be at 5 p.m. with the presentation at 5;30 p.m. Carolyn Kelk, registered dietitian, will explain dietary substitutions, portion control techniques and offer taste tests. Dr. Kristine Flowers will discuss he top women's health tests and screenings, taking a big picture proactive approach to health. The event is free but pre-registration is required.
