Robins complete sweep of Pacelli in final GNC dual
space
The Antigo Red Robins girls tennis team finished its previously rained-out match with the Pacelli Cardinals Monday.

The prior meeting, held on August 27 saw all three Antigo doubles teams shut out their opponents before the rain put things on hold for a few weeks.

Julia Westen and Jenna Lenzner had easy and consistent control over Ella Schroeder and Marissa Stolt at number one doubles, Greta Parsons and Ellie Preboski ruled their court with power and aggressive play at number two doubles in their win over the Pacelli combo of Jenna Stolt and Maya Kunze.

The eager and energetic combo of Lily Nicholson and Elli Stank in the number three doubles position took care of Briar Armatowski and Jayden Hytry.

Monday, Pacelli's four singles players traveled back to Antigo to finish the Robins' lone remaining Great Northern Conference match of the season, with the GNC tourney looming Saturday.

Ellie Kelly and Margo Kelly both cruised through their matches at number two and three singles, respectively. Elli defeated Amelia Jacoby 6-0, 6-1, while Margo took down Allison Lange 6-2, 6-2.

“Ellie plays with a subtle power that catches her opponent off guard,” head coach Aimee Hein said. “Margo maneuvers her court with grace that is beautiful to watch.”

Avery Nicholson wasn't far behind at number one singles, as her hard hits and speed made it tough for Amanda Lansing to overcome in a 6-0, 6-2 win for Nicholson.

Brechlyn Flannery tried to pick up where she left off at number four singles, with Julia Storch launching a sneaky comeback. After Flannery took the first set 6-4, Storch brought the second set to a 6-6 tie.

Flannery pushed back hard under pressure with powerful serves and an endless tenacity that couldn't be denied took take the match and wrap up a 7-0 win for the Lady Robins.

Next up is a trip to Rhinelander Saturday for the conference meet.

Antigo ends its regular season dual meet GNC mark at 6-1, while Rhinelander holds the top spot with a perfect 7-0 record. With a 46-3 mark in individual conference matches, and Antigo at 41-8, the Hodags hold a 10 point lead heading into Saturday in their bid to repeat as conference champs.

Last season's ending saw Rhinelander re-take the title from the Robins by a slim two-point margin.
