SPIRITS AT THE LAKE

The annual Spirits at the Lake, a golf outing and gala to benefit the Community Health Foundation, takes place tonight at Bass Lake Golf course.

The golf tournament is sold out but sponsorships and evening tickets are available.

There will be signature drinks, carnival games, dinner buffet, silent auction and raffles beginning at 5 p.m. Hip Pocket will perform from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

Tickets for the evening are $35 in advance or $40 at the door if available.

CHEESE FEST

The Antigo Farmers' Market is now underway in the Heinzen Pavilion at Peaceful Valley Park, and this Saturday is Cheese Fest.

From 8 a.m. to noon sample a variety of cheeses made with Wisconsin milk. Or try the homemade macaroni and cheese made with Sartori Montamore cheese.

MUSIC IN THE PARK

Langlade County's summer Music in the Park series, which has grown from an occasional night of entertainment to a full-fledgedâ€and very fullâ€schedule, is now underway.

Music returns to the City Park bandstand on Monday with the acclaimed Hip Pocket, in a Christmas in July show to benefit the Salvation Army. It is sponsored by Aspirus Langlade Hospital. Hot beef sandwiches, hot dog plates, pies and custard will be served by the Hospital Auxiliary.

On Wednesday, enjoy Music at the Pavilion with Quarry Road performing at the Elcho community pavilion. Pelican lakes Lioness Club has the food concession.

On Thursday the City Park bandstand will host the Antigo Community Band is a show sponsored by music donors.

All concerts start at 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise indicated. Food is served at 5:30 p.m.

In case of rain, Antigo concerts are moved to the Heinzen Pavilion at Peaceful Valley Park and White Lake's are relocated to the Lake Pavilion. Elcho's venue allows concerts rain-or-shine.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

With Independence Day falling on a Thursday, celebrations stretch throughout next week and into the weekend.

Head out to North Wood Inn at Pickerel for Celebrate America 2019 on Wednesday, July 3. Gates open at 4 p.m. with music by Gimme Skynyard beginning at 4;30 p.m. Food continues until 10:30 p.m.. and there will be “fireworks and superheroes.” Advance wristbands, available until Sunday, are $20 with admission at the gate, 425. Children 12 and under will be admitted for $5. Bring your lawn chair.

Antigo's big Fourth of July parade will take place on Wednesday starting at 7 p.m. The route follows 10th Avenue from Edison Street west to the high school. There will be fireworks at 9:20 p.m. at the high school. The event is sponsored by the Antigo/Langlade County Chamber of Commerce.

HISTORY, THE ARTS

Antigo Visual Arts is celebrating “Summer in the Northwoods,” with an exhibit now on display in the AVA art gallery in the Langlade County Historical Society Museum. The show is available for viewing during regular museum hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. It will hang until AVA's fall show opens Sept. 14.

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St. The Society is in the midst of a major fundraising campaign to install an elevator and make other necessary and aesthetic improvements. Stop by the museum to pick up a brochure.

The White Lake Area Historical Society operates the Depot Museum and Historical Center in White Lake. Hours are Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Old Corner School at Neva Corners has a treasure trove of civic lessons, history, community lore and early life in Langlade County. It is open from noon to 4 p.m. on holiday weekends, Monday; July 4-7; and Aug. 31-Sept. 2. It is also available by appointment. Call Peg Aulik at 715 623-4212.



SPORTS

Take me out to the ball game with American Legion Baseball and the Antigo Typhoon. Home games are held at Kretz Bros. Park. It's a week of away games followed by the Legion home tournament on July, 5, 6 and 7.

The Antigo Polar Bears continues the 2019 BABA schedule, Games continue on most Sundays through Aug. 4. The next game is Sunday, July 7 in a 1:30 p.m. matchup at Birnamwood.

Planning is underway for summer football. There will be a mini-camp for grades nine through 12 on July 15-18. A mandatory parent/guardian and athlete fall sports meeting will be held on July 31 starting with online registration at 4:30 p.m. First day of practice is Aug. 6.

Plan now for the summer gymnastics camp on July 8 through 12. Registration deadline is Friday. Visit agcaymnastics@yahoo.com for details.

The Clara R. McKenna Aquatic Center has announced the 2019 summer swim lesson schedule. There are classes for preschool through level six along with lifeguarding at various times throughout the summer months. Contact the aquatic center at 715 627-0497 for details.
