Trees tumble during wind storm here Monday
space
It was very likely that about the time Denise Hansen was singing the Star Spangled Banner with the Northernaires orchestra Monday evening trees were tumbling due to heavy winds throughout Langlade County.

There were even big and leafy branches down in the park, not far from the bandstand where the Music in the Park program was underway.

The musicians and Hansen returned to the bandstand after a storm respite, but the crowd had scattered and missed the rest of what was an excellent and tune-filled evening.

The storm kept the city of Antigo employees busy during the overnight hours clearing trees and branches and there were areas of the county that suffered problems, too.

The Wisconsin Public Service Corporation said this morning that just under 500 people in the Antigo area were without power, joining similar pockets in Schofield, Merrill and Tomahawk.

The Langlade County Safety Building fielded numerous reports of storm damage, including:

- An extensive foliage mess near the intersection of Clermont Street and Badger Avenue, which required a morning effort from the Antigo Street Department to clear.

- A tree down on the 700 block of Hudson Street, partially obstructing the road.

- A downed wire on fire on Seventh Avenue near Peace Lutheran Church.

- A downed wire sparking on a parked truck on the 1000 block of Fourth Avenue.

- A power line down for an entire city block near Clermont Street and Pierce Avenue

- On North Street in Phlox, a tree was cracked and hanging down on a wire low enough that passing vehicles could touch it.

- A tree down on County Road J near County Road B in Kempster.

- A power line and tree down, completely blocking the road, on County Road E near County Road B in the town of Neva.

- A tree down causing partial blockage of Trout Road near County Road AA in the town of Norwood.

- On County Road M in the village of White Lake, a tree was down across the road with electrical wires down along the north side of the road.

- A tree down across the roadway near the intersection of Highway 52 and County Road S in the town of Price.
