Lauren Rine received theTop Scholar of Excellence award while Jolynne Schroepfer was named honorary chapter member at the annual FFA banquet awards ceremony Monday.

The gala has been revitalized over the past two years by Antigo High School FFA chapter advisor Shalynn Domke, herself an alumnus of the organization. It drew over 115 members, family and guests to the North Star banquet faclities for an evening that mixed dining, commraderie, humor and honors.

Special guest was state officer Mitchell Schroepfer, an alumnus of the Antigo chapter, who reflected on his year traveling the state with the FFA message.

It wasn't all serious. Domke started the evening by presenting senior FFA members with their graduation cords and then a special giftâ€a pizza kit.

“For a couple reasons,” she said, “one, pizza is a great thing to eat at college and two, every time you take a bite you will be rating the product of agriculture and hopefully think about ag and our chapter here.”

That the chapter's future will be brightâ€and livelyâ€was on full display when eighth grader Nick Wild took the microphone as the auctioneer. He wasn't timid, with frequent, “you're killing me up here” as be drove the bids for pies and other items well past the $100 mark several times.

Wild will join the Antigo High School chapter in fall. Domke presented him with a shirt in appreciation of his auctioneer work.

“Now I expect you to wear that the first day of class,” she said.

He promised, and moments later exchanged it for a larger size.

The focus of the evening, in large part the work of the very ative FFA Alumnu organization, was on honoring achievements. A list of all the recepients follows with pictures on page two.
