Snuggles, humor mark top moms
space
Heidi Birchfield sings songs and snuggles with her daughter, Alyssa, and that's earned her top honors as Mother of the Year in Langlade County.

Birchfield took first place in the Antigo/Langlade County Chamber of Commerce's long-standing contest, receiving a slew of gift certificates and other prizes from chamber members.

Her daughter is a fifth grade student at East Elementary School.

The winning letter follows:

Dear Chamber of Commerce,

The first thing I love about my mom is that every day she asks how my day was.

Sometimes I ask her if she will sing a song and she and I will sing a couple of songs.

I think she is the best because she loves me always and she lets me lay by her even when I'm sick or she's sick.

I love her because she is just the best mom. I love her so much. She is the best!

Alyssa Birchfield

Second place went to Tawnie Beer, a mom whose hard work and sense of humor hasn't gone unnoticed by her son, Soren, a fourth grader at Spring Valley Elementary School.

That letter follows:

Dear Chamber of Commerce,

You should pick my mother because she is a wonderful person. My mom is humorous because she makes jokes about things. For example, “Knock knock,'' “Who's there,'' “How,'' “How who,'' “How you doing!'' My mom is also humorous because she makes jokes about what she can and can't do like rock jumping.

My mom should be a millionaire for how hard and long she works! My mom is hard working because she works 13 hours a night at the Volm Co. in Antigo. She works hard because sometimes she works on five machines! Also, when my mom gets home she almost falls on the floor she's so sleepy!

My mom can cheer you up in a jiffy! My mom is cheerful because when I'm sad she would say, “Knock knock,'' “Who's there,'' “Are,'' “Are who,'' “Are you okay?'' I don't know if my mom is magic but she does know how to cheer people up! My mom is the best mom on the planet. That's why she should get picked.

Sincerely,

Soren Beer

The contest returns with Father of the Year picks in June.
