Antigo Area Weekend Activities

Several events related to the Lenten season, plus some great dining and sports options cover the calendar for the first weekend of April.

And the countdown is on for the April 13 visit by Green Bay Packer greats as part of the franchise's Tailgate Tour.

A look ahead, taken from the Journal's advertising columns, follows:

GUN SHOW

The Antigo Gun Show comes to the multi-purpose building at the fairgrounds today, 3 to 8 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Buy, sell or trade new and used firearms, ammunition, knives, re-loading supplies and more.

Admission is $6 and free for ages 14 and under.

TAILGATE TOUR

Several Packer greats, along with President/CEO Mark Murphy will visit Antigo as part of the team's annual Tailgate Tour, a five-day blitz across the state. The tour will come to the Langlade County Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 13. Doors open at 11 a.m. with the event getting underway at 1 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Langlade County Habitat for Humanity.

Joining Murphy will be Packers alumni Nick Barnett, Earl Dotson, Ryan Grant, Bernardo Harris, Aaron Kampman and Scott Wells.

The tour will include a tailgate party, with tickets priced at $40 each. There will be food, giveaways, question-and-answer sessions and autographs. In addition, general admission tickets will be available for $10, which include access to the Q-and-A sessions as well as tailgate party activities.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

SPORTS

“Game On” in Antigo as well, as the downtown's newest bar restaurant and banquet center is kicking off the Major League Baseball season and showing those red-hot Milwaukee Brewers on the big screens. It offers a full service restaurant, a 48 foot bar with 10 beers on tap, served in frosted mugs, and a 16 foot main event screen and four ultra HD project screens. There are also Friday night fish frys, indoor cornhole and plans for live music and shows. Virtual game lovers can give golf, pool and darts a try and those looking to stage an event can book a full service banquet facility.

THE BROWNS

Four Corners Assembly of God, White Lake, will feature The Browns in concert Sunday. The program will be held at 10:30 a.m.

According to Pastor Marvin Kindle, the Browns deliver a powerful message of the Gospel through word and son and will engage audiences of all ages.

FAITH-FILLED EVENTS

St. John Catholic Church will hold two faith-filled events this weekend.

Tonight, the church will host a Mass with healing services. Celebrant will be Rev. Cladio Barbut of Romania. There will be confessions from 5 to 6:15 p.m. followed by Mass at 6:30 p.m.

On Sunday, the Tri-Parish Lenten Mission will host Luke Spehar live in concert. The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. All are invited and a free-will offering will be accepted.

Spehar is a nationally known recording artist and singer/songwriter. Born and raised in Minnesota, his music reflects the elegant and thoughtful nature of the Midwest.

SHOPPING

Colleen's Craft Shed & More, 517 Clermont St., is celebrating its first anniversary April 6 through 13. There are specials on handmade local soy wax candles and melting tarts, Door County Coffee, dip packages and more. Enter to win a gift package with your purchase of $25 or more.

Celebrate Easter with help from Frisch Greenhouses. It is opening for the season on Monday, with regular hours weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Stop down at Schroeder's for some favorite things. Specially-selected favorites throughout the store are specially priced at 20 percent off through Sunday.

The Community Association of Retirees thrift shop will be having a 25 cent sale on clothing and shoes, unless otherwise marked, Monday through Friday.

DINING

The Antigo Lions Club is planning its 11th annual spaghetti dinner on Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Swartzendruber's Supper Club. Enjoy all-you-can-eat spaghetti along with continuous meat, 50/50, and other raffles. The 30th sportsman's raffle will be at 3 p.m. The public is invited to join all the fun.

The Antigo Elks Club will hold its 18th annual smelt and fish fry on Friday, April 12 at the lodge. The all-you-can-eat menu will include smelt, fish, parsley-buttered potatoes, cole slaw, rye bread, coffee and milk.

MOVIES

Now showing at the Palace Twin Theater are “Dumbo,” rated PG, along with “Shazam,” rated PG-13.

AUCTIONS, SALES

The Greater Mattoon Area Historical Society is collecting unwanted firearms and other outdoor equipment as a fund-raiser toward creating the new museum. Donated items will be sold to collectors or at auction, with items of historical value kept as artifacts. North Central Sales Auctions is holding an online auction of the personal property at N6921 Patri Rd., Manawa. OTHER EVENTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is open Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St. The Society is in the midst of a major fundraising campaign to install an elevator and make other necessary and aesthetic improvements. Stop by the museum to pick up a brochure.

The White Lake Area Historical Society operates the Depot Museum and Historical Center in White Lake. Hours are Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

GriefShare, a special weekly seminar and support group designed to help participants rebuild their lives, will conclude Sunday at Peace Lutheran Fellowship Hall, Sundays, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Contact the church at 715 623-2200 or peaceantigo.org for details.

The Senior Center of Langlade County will feature a special program with Lt. Dan Bauknecht of the Langlade County Sheriff Department Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the center, located in the Health Service Center on Langlade Road. He will discuss drug issues and other topics of interest.

The Compassionate Friends of the Greater Antigo Area will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the conference room at Aspirus Langlade Hospital. The group provides highly personal comfort, home and support to every family experiencing the death of a son of a daughter, a brother or a sister or a grandchild and helps others better assist the grieving family.

It will be “McTeacher Night” Wednesday at McDonalds. From 4 to 7 p.m., a number of staff from All Saints Catholic School will be working the team at McDonalds, serving and clearing tables along with other tasks. Twenty percent of profits during that time will be donated to the school.
