Antigo Area Weekend Activities

It's a weekend for dining and dancing.

The annual Snow Ball gala Saturday night, followed by the Tavern League's Dress Up Dress Down afternoon and evening of music and fun on Sunday, highlight activities on what promises to be a snowy and wintry weekend across the region.

That snow will be perfect for the ice fishing derby at White Lake on Saturday along with the city's Winter Wellness Day Sunday.

And for those wishing to stay indoors, next week includes Feb. 14, a day for sweeties.

A look at Valentine's Day activities will be published in Tuesday's newspaper. A look at other events, taken from the Journal's advertising columns, follows:

TRIVIA NIGHT

The Boys & Girls Club of Langlade County will hold its annual Trivia Night tonight at North Star Lanes.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with trivia starting at 6 p. m.

Registration is $50 for each four to six person team. First place team will win $250.

Teams are also invited to theme their tables, with the most creative winning a special prize. Costumes are also encouraged with prizes for the best-dressed team as well.

All proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club.

FISHING DERBY

The White Lake Volunteer Fire Department will present its 45th annual fishing derby on Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., headquartered at the heated White Lake Pavilion.

There will be fun for the whole family, including paddle wheel, raffles, poker table, 50-50 drawing and door prizes all day. Main drawing will be at 4 p.m.

There will also be food and drink and cash prizes for the longest game and/or panfish caught in White Lake that day.

SNOW BALL

The annual Snow Ball, an L.A. Arts fund-raiser for a new arts center in Antigo, will take place on Saturday, 7 p.m. to midnight, at Timber Haven in Polar.

The evening will include music and dancing with Hip Pocket, desserts, hors d'oeuvres, signature cocktails, a silent auction and more.

Advance tickets are $40 and are available at the Antigo Daily Journal, Neve's Floors to Go & Furniture and Lakeside Market. They will also be sold at the door.

DRESS UP DRESS DOWN

Don't put those party clothes away after the Snow Ball. Keep the duds handy for the Langlade County Tavern League's Black & White Dress Up Dress Down on Sunday, 3 to 10 p.m. at Celebrations, located on Antigo's south side.

There will be hors d'oeuvres, raffles, prizes and live music from 4 to 9 p.m. with The Sundowners.

Tickets are $25 each and are available from any tavern league member. Proceeds will benefit the Safe Ride Home program.

WINTER WELLNESS DAY

There's plenty of snow on the ground and temperatures are suppose to be quite seasonal for the Winter Fun and Wellness Day Sunday hosted by the city of Antigo Parks and Recreation Department.

Everyone is invited to come and enjoy a variety of healthy family fun, along with campfires, hot drinks and free hot dogs.

Activities will run from noon to 3 p.m. at Peaceful Valley Park.

Sponsors include Aspirus Langlade Hospital, Boys & Girls Club of Langlade County, the city of Antigo and Langlade County Economic Development Corporation.

MORE SPORTS

The Park and Rec Department has more events planned as well.

The schedule includes Open skate, Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the indoor ice in the multipurpose building at the fairgrounds; and the annual Brewer bus trip, a bit early this year, on March 29. It will be only the second game of the regular season and the Brewers will take on the St. Louis Cardinals at Miller Park.

Registration is open for city tee-ball, coach pitch, pitch machine, soccer teams and boot camp, and flag football. Go to antigo-city.org/parks-recreation and look for the Register Now link for information and registration.

WACD 106, WATK Classic Hits 98.7 and AM 900 will broadcast live reports from the annual Antigo youth wrestling tournament Sunday at Antigo High School.

OPEN HOUSE

It's time to “Think Spring” at Brickners RV Center.

The dealership will hold its annual RV and Camper indoor open house on Saturday, Feb. 16 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It will offer those looking ahead a great chance to see what's new for 2019.

MOVIES

Now showing at the Palace Twin Theater is “Lego 2: The Movie,” rated PG, along with “Green Book” and “The Upside,” both rated PG-13.

SENIOR CENTER

It will be a busy February at the Senior Center of Langlade County.

The weekly schedule include Monday, mah jong, 1 to 3 p.m.; Tuesday, coffee, 9 to 11 a.m.; Wednesday, bingo, 1 to 3 p.m.; Thursday: Coffee, 9 to 11 a.m., and cards, 1 to 4 p.m.; and Friday, music with Stone Soup Brothers, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Special events for the month include:

Feb.12: Guest speaker Joe Hermolin on historical buildings in Langlade County, 1:30 p.m.

Feb. 15: Valentine's party with refreshments and music by Stone Soup Bros., 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

and Feb. 19: Lunch Bunch outing to Luigi's (if open), 11 a.m., crafts to follow at 1:30 p.m.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

It's time to enjoy pancakes!

The Antigo Knights of Columbus will host a pancake breakfast on Sunday, 8 a.m. to noon, in the basement of St. John Catholic Church.

Enjoy all-you-can-eat buttermilk and potato pancakes along with pork sausages, coffee, milk and orange juice.

OTHER EVENTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is open Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St. The Society is kicking off a major fundraising campaign to install an elevator and make other necessary and aesthetic improvements. Stop by the museum to pick up a brochure.

The White Lake Area Historical Society operates the Depot Museum and Historical Center in White Lake. Hours are Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

AARP is offering income tax assistance at a new location this year, the Langlade County Resource Center, located across from the courthouse. Hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 715 627-6580 for an appointment.

GriefShare, a special weekly seminar and support group designed to help participants rebuild their lives, will run Sunday through April 7 at Peace Lutheran Fellowship Hall, Sundays, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Contact the church at 715 623-2200 or peaceantigo.org for details.

The Compassionate Friends of the Greater Antigo Area will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Aspirus Langlade Hospital conference room.
