Antigo Area Weekend Activities

The forecast calls for chilly temperatures, but that's not likely to stop northern Wisconsin sports enthusiasts.

Despite the cold, a busy weekend is on tap, with the countywide snowmobile ride-in and Hockey Days leading the agenda.

And it's also Winter Ball weekend, an elegant formal fete, and both Lutheran and CatholicSchools Weeks start on Sunday.

A look at events, taken from the Antigo Daily Journal's advertising columns, follows:

SNOWMOBILE RIDE-IN

The Langlade County Snowmobile Council will host its 35th annual ride-in on Saturday, Jan. 26 headquartered at the Lily Sno Birds Clubhouse off Turtle Lake Road.

The fun starts at 11 a.m. Food and refreshments will be provided.

WINTER BALL

The Antigo High School Winter Ball, a formal dance, will take place on Saturday, 7 to 11 p.m. at the Middle School. Grand march will be at 7 p.m. Cost in advance is $20 per couple and $11 per single. Spectator admission will be donation. All profits will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Get flowers for the dance at Frisch Greenhouses. It will be open on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

CATHOLIC, LUTHERAN SCHOOLS

All Saints Catholic School and Peace Lutheran School will both be celebrating starting Sunday.

All Saints will open Catholic Schools Week on Sunday with an open house from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. At 6 p.m. will be “Celebrating Our Faith” at St. John Catholic Church a mix of music poetry, readings dance and more, followed by snacks and refreshments.

In-school activities will continue throughout the week with skits Monday, bowling Tuesday, and an all-school Mass and Religion Bee Wednesday.

Also Wednesday, Pint-Size Polkas will present “Hocus Polkas,” the happiest music on earth plus music and comedy at 5:30 p.m.

Events at All Saints will continue with activities at Ski Brule and Silver Birch on Thursday and a live radio broadcast and movies on Friday.

At Peace Lutheran School, events kick off Sunday with students singing at the 10:30 a.m. worship service followed by family bowling at North Star Lanes.

There will be activities at the school throughout the week including an all-school devotion on Monday, ice skating and games on Wednesday and basketball on Thursday.

Friday will include a pancakes and PJ breakfast at 7:30 a.m., ice cream-eating contest in the afternoon and closing chapel at 2 p.m.

MORE SPORTS

Register now for spring park and recreation programs hosted by the city of Antigo. Tee-ball, coach pitch baseball, pitching machine baseball, soccer and flag football sign-ups are now underway. Park shelter rentals can also be made online. Go to antigo-city.org/parks-recreation and click on the right side of screen menu.

MOVIES

Now showing at the Palace Twin Theater are “The Upside,” rated PG-13, and “A Dog's Way Home,” rated PG.

The annual Snow Ball, an L.A. Arts fund-raiser for a new arts center in Antigo, will take place on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Timber Haven in Polar. Running from 7 p.m. to midnight.

The evening will include music and dancing with Hip Pocket, desserts, hors d'oeuvres, signature cocktails, a silent auction and more.

Advance tickets are $40 and are available at the Antigo Daily Journal, Neve's Floors to Go & Furniture and Lakeside Market.

OTHER EVENTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is open Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St. The Society is kicking off a major fundraising campaign to install an elevator and make other necessary and aesthetic improvements. Stop by the museum to pick up a brochure.

The White Lake Area Historical Society operates the Depot Museum and Historical Center in White Lake. Hours are Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

AARP will be offering income tax assistance at a new location this year, the Langlade County Resource Center, located across from the courthouse. Hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 715 627-6580 for an appointment.

GriefShare, a special weekly seminar and support group designed to help participants rebuild their lives, will run Sunday through April 7 at Peace Lutheran Fellowship Hall, Sundays, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Contact the church at 715 623-2200 or peaceantigo.org for details.

There will be a celebration of life for Leonard “Peannie” Bazille on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. at Final Lap Bar & Grill, Pickerel. Come and reminisce with family and friends.

North Central Sales Auction is holding an online only auction for Brickners of Wausau, which is moving to a new facility. It starts Jan. 30 at noon and ends Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. Hoists, a complete car wash system, Modine heaters, shelving, automotive supplies, office equipment and more will all be sold.
