Planned tree burn almost goes up in smoke days early
space
A brief but odd variety of activity turns up on the law enforcement blotter from yesterday.

A passing motorist called to tell Antigo police that someone prematurely started the Christmas tree burn across from the high school at 6:49 p.m. The called identified an old white pickup truck leaving the scene, and dropping trees from its bed onto the road. Police were unable to locate the truck, and the Antigo Fire Department extinguished the fire, preserving most of the pile for the big planned event Monday.

The Langlade County Highway Department reported that for the second time recently, a stop sign at the intersection of County Road I and Ackley Road has been stolen. The first time it disappeared post and all, this time only the sign has vanished. Footprints were discovered at the scene, but no suspects.

There were two citations issued at Antigo High School yesterday. A 13-year-old male was cited for disorderly conduct for lighting a firecracker in a bathroom on Monday. A 14-year-old male was cited for punching another student last Friday.

A 12-year-old male was referred for a theft that occurred Dec. 14 at Antigo Middle School.

Thirteen students also received citations for truancy. Nine females, ages 14 through 17, and four males, ages 16 through 18, were cited for missing all or part of school days ranging from 11 up to 77 days.
