Work moving ahead at Kettlebowl
space
Kettlebowl volunteers are getting ready for the upcoming ski season while honoring those who helped create the complex over 50 years ago.

On Saturday, volunteers gathered at the hill and ski chalet for a work day, and on Wednesday, many of those same folks will gather again for the annual meeting, which will include an opportunity to honor longtime volunteers Gordie and Gloria Schofield and Dale and Pat Peterson.

Saturday's event was held under sunny skies, and lots of hands made fairly light work.

“It turned out to be a perfect day for working both outside and inside the chalet,” Judy Peterson said. “The tow ropes were installed, the pole pads were put up, and we took measurements for a new rope tow.”

The remainder of the hill was mowed and other outdoor projects were completed, she said. The chalet's windows were washed inside and outside, interior scrubbing and cleaning projects were completed.

“Inventories were taken, supply needs were reviewed and now we wait for the snow and winter to come,” she said.

So now, it's time to celebrate. On Wednesday, the Langlade County Ski Club, which operates the hill, will hold its annual general meeting and volunteer get-together for Kettlebowl at Timber Haven in Polar.

The get-together will start at 5:30 p.m. with the meeting at 6 p.m.

Peterson said there will be a special program to honor the Schofields and the Petersons for their decades of volunteering at Kettlebowl.

“Plaques will be given to them along with ones that will be hung at Kettlebowl,” Peterson said. “ All past, present and future volunteers are invited to attend along with friends and family.”

Pizza and appetizers will be served.
