Antigo Area Weekend Activities

Labor Day weekend, the bookend to the summer season, has arrived.

But while a bit poignant to summer-lovers, the three days will be full of fun and happenings, picnics, music and much more.

A look at events, taken from the Antigo Daily Journal advertising columns follows.

LABOR DAY PICNIC

The Rolling Stone Lake Protection and Rehabilitation district will hold its 35th annual Labor Day Picnic on Sunday, noon to 9 p.m., at the Rolling Stone Building, corner of East Shore Road and Pickerel Lake Road, Pearson.

The afternoon and evening will mix great food, friends and fun. There will be raffles for baskets donated by many individuals and donations from local business, food, refreshments, baked goods and more, the popular local band “Lovin' Country,” featuring Donnie and Rosie, will play from 3 to 8 p.m.



SUMMER JUNKET

The Elcho Cross-Country Ski Club will hold its summer junket on the Moccasin Trails, home of Michelle's Lodge, on Sunday beginning at 3 p.m.

Everyone is invited to come out and see what the trailsa wintertime fun spothave to offer during the warmer months, including horseback and mountain bike riding, hiking, dog walking, free rough camping and of course free use of the beautiful Michelle's Lodge, built last year in remembrance of Michelle Koss.

No formal programs planned, but visitors are invited to see the new wrapped canvas listing the names of all donors to the Michelle's Lodge project.

There will also be a bonfire for roasting hot dogs and making s'smores.

Guests are invited to bring a dish to pass or perhaps some cookies or bars to enjoy.

GRAND OPENING

The Evergreen Shoppe, located within the former Evergreen Inn complex of buildings at the corner of Highway 64 and P between Elton and White Lake, is holding its grand opening today, Saturday and Monday.

Owners Mervin and Tanya Brubaker and their nine children, part of the Mennonite community, are operating the store, specializes in bakery, made on-site by the older of the daughters, with delicious cookies, pies, breads and cinnamon rolls. For those who miss the fresh offerings, there is a freezer case full of ready-to-bake frozen rolls, turnovers and cookie dough.

There is also a deli case featuring a mix of cheeses and meats, along with eggs, butter, chocolate, nuts, spices, and some produce.

Grand opening specials will include butter at $2.89 a pound, with a limit of five pounds; pepperjack cheese at $3.19 a pound; farmers cheese, $2.89 a pound; hickory smoked bacon, $4.29 a pound; and artisan carving ham, $3.59 a pound. There will also be storewide product samples.

Hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

CORN ROAST

The Phlox Sportsman's Club will hold its 44th annual corn roast on Sunday, noon to 9 p.m., at Norwood Ball Park in Phlox.

There will be refreshments, live music and prizes.

WHITE LAKE ASSOCIATION

The Lake Association of White Lake will hold its 20th anniversary annual meeting on Monday at the White Lake Pavilion.

Refreshments will be served from 9:15 to 10 a.m. with the meeting to follow from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

There will be free coffee, drinks, cake, cookies, door prizes, fun and more. There will also be a screening of the loon video, “Heeding the Call.”

The public is invited.

ART SHOW

Antigo Visual Artists is now showing “Summer in the Northwoods” in the gallery located in the Langlade County Historical Society Museum. It remains on display through Sept. 6.

AVA is also looking for entries for its Autumn's Blessings Art Show Sept. 14 through Nov. 28. Deadline for entries is Aug. 31. Entry forms are available at the gallery.

MOVIES

Now showing at the Palace Twin Theater are “Incredibles 2,” rated PG, and “Crazy Rich Asians,” rated PG-13.

SALES

Antigo Farmers Market, billed as “the next best thing to owning a hobby farm,” is at Heinzen Pavilion at Peaceful Valley Park, Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon. It runs through Sept. 29.

A “Maximus” flea market will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Langlade County fairgrounds. Hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and there will be thousands of treasures and collectibles. Admission is $2.

The Rolling Stone Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District will host a rummage sale today and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the rolling Stone Building, corner of East Shore Road and Pickerel Lake Road, Pearson. There will be basket raffle rickets, food and baked goods.

A large multi-family garage sale will take place today and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at W9482 County Road F. A cabinet sewing machine, furniture, dishes, glassware, clothes, toys and games, Coca-Cola collectibles, books and more will be sold. Also available will be Jacob's special sweet corn and pumpkins, fall mum plants, straw bales and corn stalks.

It's billed as the sale of the year through Saturday at W9852 Cherry Rd. Ern, Perry and Juli say they have accumulated lots of treasures and need to downsize. Choose from guns, sporting goods, antiques, tools and household items. It starts at 9 a.m. daily.

Shafel's are holding a garage sale today until 7 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon. Go three miles north of Antigo on Highway 45 to County Road I. Turn right and their's is the first place.

A big seven family garage sale is taking place through Monday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily, at 1320 Fifth Ave. Name brand clothing, bikes, luggage, prom and Harvest Ball dresses, cookware, furniture, books, and lots more will be sold.

OTHER EVENTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St.

The White Lake Area Historical Society operates the Depot Museum and Historical Center in White Lake. Summer hours are Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Old Corner School at Neva Corners offers a treasure trove of civic lessons, history, community lore and early life in Langlade County. It is open Saturday through Monday, noon to 4 p.m. Visits are also available by appointment. Call Peg Aulik at 715 623-4212.

Strasser-Roller Funeral Home will host Table Talk, a program on the benefits of advance funeral and cremation planning, on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Crab ‘'N Jack's Supper Club, White Lake. Call 715 623-5202 to reserve a seat.

Aspirus Langlade Hospital, in conjunction with the Blood Center of Northcentral Wisconsin, will host a blood drive on Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the hospital conference room. Walk-in donors are always welcome. For more information, call the blood center at 1-866-566-5900.

The Lake Association of White Lake will hold its 20th anniversary annual meeting on Monday at the White Lake Pavilion.

Refreshments will be served from 9:15 to 10 a.m. with the meeting to follow from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

There will be free coffee, drinks, cake, cookies, door prizes, fun and more. There will also be a screening of the loon video, “Heeding the Call.”

The public is invited.

ART SHOW

Antigo Visual Artists is now showing “Summer in the Northwoods” in the gallery located in the Langlade County Historical Society Museum. It remains on display through Sept. 6.

AVA is also looking for entries for its Autumn's Blessings Art Show Sept. 14 through Nov. 28. Deadline for entries is Aug. 31. Entry forms are available at the gallery.

MOVIES
