Antigo 12U Stallions blast way into title game, but fall to Altoona

The Antigo 12U Stallions traveling baseball team was in Altoona this past weekend, coming away with a strong second place tournament showing.

Antigo opened play against Bloomer, and pounded out 19 runs on 16 hits in a 19-3, four inning final.

Leading hitters included Riley Guenthner, who went four-for-four with a double, Jake Hanus ended the game three-for-four, including a triple.

Devin Breitenfeldt, Michael Preboski, and Jake Verhasselt added two hits each. Breitenfeldt tripled, while Preboski had a double.

Ben Robrecht and Jon Schmidt combined for the win on the mound, holding Bloomer to just three hits.

Game two was another blowout win for Antigo, as the Stallions took down Hayward 14-2, again in four innings.

Mason Gray led the Antigo attack with three hits, including a double and home run. Ty Kohler also had three hits, with Hanus going two-for-three with a double. Preboski contributed a pair of base knocks as well.

On the mound, the Stallions’ combination of Guenthner and Verhasselt got the job done. The pair struck 11 and allowed just two Hayward hits.

The win set up a championship showdown with the host team, but this time it was Altoona coming out on the winning side with a 9-1 victory.

Antigo was held to four hits in the title game, with Schmidt and Hanus recording doubles.

Robrecht, Verhasselt, Hanus, and Schmidt all saw time on the mound in the loss.

The 12U Stallions are off until the weekend of July 20-22, as the Stallions host their annual tournament. Teams will compete in age brackets from 9U-15U.
