Three games, two wins for 9U Stallions at home

The Antigo 9U Stallions baseball team continued a strong showing by home teams at last weekend’s Antigo Dugout Club Tournament, by taking second place with a 2-1 overall record.

The Stallions opened play Saturday morning against Rhinelander, and emerged 11-4 winners.

Blake Genske was the Stallions’ leading hitter with two hits in the game. Also providing base knocks was Gauge Guenthner, Nathan Malone, and Scott Hagerty, who tripled.

Hagerty, Malone, and Genske all recorded RBIs.

Hayden Thill and Genske pitched in the win. Thill went 2 1/3 innings, and allowed four runs, three earned on two hits. He walked five and struck out six. Genske went 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit. He did not walk a batter, and recorded four strikeouts.

Game two under a hot Saturday sun, was a 10-2 loss coming against Green Bay. Antigo produced just two hits against a tough Green Bay pitching staff. Both of those hits were courtesy of Guenthner.

Thill and Genske each went two innings. Thill struck out three, while giving up two earned runs on three hits. Genske had one strike out, walked two and was tagged for five earned runs on seven hits.

The finale for the Stallions was a Saturday night matchup with Plover, as Antigo emerged with an exciting 8-6 victory.

Seven different batters recorded hits. Including Malone, Guenthner, Genske, Thill, Coleman Marmes, Hagerty, and Jordy Pregler.

Hagerty drove in two on an inside-the-park homer, walked twice, and scored three times. Marmes’ hit was a double.

Guenthner, Thill, and Genske all pitched two solid innings a piece.

Guenthner allowed three earned runs on five hits, walking three and striking out three. Thill allowed one run on three hits, with a walk and three strikeouts. Genske gave up one unearned run on a single hit, with two strikeouts.

The 9U Stallions are off until July 13-15, when they will play in the Clintonville Tournament.
