Antigo Area Weekend Activities

Itís a big weekend of music, dining, fishing and more in the northwoods.

The Langlade County Dairy Breakfast, Kidsí Fishing Day and MC Rock Fest are headliners for the weekend, offering entertainment opportunities for every taste.

Music in the Park continues on Monday and Thursday at City Park, an outstanding summertime venue, and there will be rummage at the museum, a fish fry in Elcho and more.

A look ahead, taken from the Antigo Daily Journalís advertising columns, follows:

DAIRY BREAKFAST

The Maly family in Bryant will host the Langlade County Breakfast on the Farm, a salute to the dairy industry, Sunday.

Sponsored by the Langlade County Dairy Promotion Committee and Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin, the event will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the sprawling farm, located at W7880 Highway O, Bryant.

The breakfast, catered by Nueskeís at Gulliverís, will include scrambled eggs, sausages, pancakes with locally-made pure maple syrup, cheesy hashbrowns, milk, orange juice, coffee and of course cheese and ice cream.

Cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages six to 12 and free for ages five and under.

The morning will include much more, including a childrenís tractor pull and sand box, petting zoo, barrel train rides and a candy drop starting at 11 a.m.

There will be guided farm tours with wagons pulled by tractors and Brandtís big Percheron draft horses; On the Moove, featuring an interactive milking cow; and the Farm Bureau interactive agricultural game kiosk.

The Jaws of Life will be on scene, the Antigo Garden Club will have a plant sale, and there will be car rollover demonstrations every hour.

Lincoln County is also holding its June Dairy Month Breakfast and Ag Expo on Sunday, It will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the Marc/Smith Center in Merrill.

The menu will include all-you-can-eat Belgium waffles with toppings, cheesy scrambled eggs, sausage links, locally-produced maple syrup and cheese curds, chocolate and white milk, juices and coffee. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for ages 6 to 11 and free for those five and under.

Activities, including horse-drawn wagon rides, a petting zoo, and bus tour of a dairy farm. Music will be by Dave Fox and Foxfire.

KIDS FISHING

Antigo Chapter Trout Unlimited will present Kidsí Fishing Day on Saturday, rain or shine, at City Park.

Activities run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include a fish tank for younger anglers with trout from Silver Moon Hatchery provided by Trout Unlimited. There will also be free food and drinks under the shelter and door prizes.

Bring a small cooler. Ice, plastic bags, fishing poles and bait will all be provided.

ROCK FEST

The MC Classic Rock Fest opens tonight and continues through Saturday at the MC Festival grounds in Deerbrook.

Featured artists include Manson, Rocker! Rocker! Rocker!, The Dukes, Billy Shears Band (formerly Southern Gypsy), Boomboxx and Scott E. Berendt & The Us Project.

Day pass is $25 with weekend passes priced at $35. Camping packages are $120.

MUSIC IN THE PARK

Enjoy some great tunes at Music in the Park.

The summer concert series returns to the City Park bandstand on Monday with Quarry Road playing a variety of music starting at 6:30 p.m. The show is sponsored by music donors.

Pies and custard will be served by the Langlade County Historical Society at 5:30 p.m.

It will be a special evening of music on Thursday, Flag Day. Of Chorus! will perform for the Elks flag ceremony at 6:30 p.m. followed by Travoi Two Bears Red Eagle Tuttle. The show is sponsored by the Antigo Elks Club.

Barbecues, pies and custard will be served by the Langlade County Farm Bureau starting at 5:30 p.m.

Itís always a good idea to bring a lawn chair. In the event of rain, the concerts will be held in the Heinzen Pavilion at Peaceful Valley Park.

DINING

Elcho United Church of Christ Menís Club will hold its monthly fish fry tonight, with serving at 5 p.m. Enjoy shrimp, fried or broiled fish, cole slaw, potato, beverage and dessert. Carryouts are available.

Country Kitchen now offers a Friday night buffet, served from 4 to 8 p.m. The all-you-can-eat meal includes broasted chicken, clam strips, deep-fried fish, popcorn shrimp, homemade mac ín cheese, veggies, potatoes, gravy, cole slaw, pasta, dinner rolls and sweets. Watch for the grand re-opening on June 23.

ART SHOW

Antigo Visual Artists is now showing Summer in the Northwoods in the gallery located in the Langlade County Historical Society Museum. It remains on display through Sept. 6.

MOVIES

Now playing at The Palace Twin Theater are Solo: A Star Wars Story, rated PG-13, Book Club, rated PG-13, and Oceans 8, rated PG-13.

AUCTIONS, SALES

The Langlade County Historical Society will hold its annual rummage sale, featuring items donated by members, Saturday. It will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. Funds raised support museum activities.

SPORTS

Birdies & Bogeys, a four person golf scramble, is taking place today at Bass Lake Golf Course Hosted by the Antigo/Langlade County Chamber of Commerce. Activities started this morning with dinner and awards at 4 p.m.

Riverview Golf Course is in the midst of Junior Lesson Week, with classes today at 5:30 p.m. and Monday, 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. They will continue every Friday through the summer at 9:30 a.m. Clubs will be furnished if needed.

OTHER EVENTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St.

The White Lake Area Historical Society operates the Depot Museum and Historical Center in White Lake. Summer hours are Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Old Corner School at Neva Corners offers a treasure trove of civic lessons, history, community lore and early life in Langlade County. It is open holiday weekends, July 1, 4 and 7 and Sept. 1 through 3, noon to 4 p.m. Visits are also available by appointment. Call Peg Aulik at 715 623-4212.

Antigo Farmers Market, billed as the next best thing to owning a hobby farm, is at Heinzen Pavilion at Peaceful Valley Park, Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon. It runs through Sept. 29.

Arlenís TV & Appliance is holdings Cellcomís Customer Appreciation and Summer Sales Event today until 6 p.m. It includes sales on smartphones, free food and beverages and a chance to win prizes.

Brain Food for Breakfast, sponsored by the Langlade County Economic Development Corporation and Suick Family Foundation, will be held Thursday, 8 a.m. to noon, at Northcentral Technical Collegeís Antigo campus.
