The summer season is sneaking up on Antigo and the northwoods.

Hard to believe, but Memorial Day is only a week away, and the Antigo Daily Journal advertising columns are hinting at the busy times ahead.

A look ahead, taken from the Antigo Daily Journal’s advertising columns, follows:

DINING

It’s rib night tonight at Vickie and the Vets. They go fast so call ahead and reserve a rack or two. Vickie’s Food Truck is now rolling on Tuesday’s, Wednesdays and Thursdays, set up from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. outside Krueger Chiropractic.

Check out what’s cooking tonight at Country Kitchen, the new Friday night buffet. Serving is from 4 to 8 p.m. with an all-you-can-eat choice of broasted chicken, clam strips, deep-fried fish, popcorn shrimp, homemade mac and cheese, veggies, potatoes, gravy, cole slaw, pastas dinner rolls and sweets.

Elcho United Church of Christ will hold its monthly dinner on Wednesday and for May, Mexican is on the menu, Serving starts at 5 p.m. at the Elcho Community Pavilion.

Faith United Church of Christ will be serving brats and pie on Friday, May 25, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Lakeside Market.

ART SHOW

Antigo Visual Artists is now showing Summer in the Northwoods in the gallery located in the Langlade County Historical Society Museum. It remains on display in the AVA gallery through Sept. 6.

TRAILS OPEN

All all-terrain vehicle and horseback trails in Langlade County opened this morning at 7 a.m.

Early season conditions will exist with trails in generally fair to good condition. Use caution as some areas may still be wet and trail work is ongoing.

MUSIC

Enjoy Bill Staines, hailed a one of America’s great troubadours, in concert Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at The Bull Barn, W11915 Highland Rd. Tickets are $15 at the door.

Other upcoming concerts include the high school choir tonight at 7 p.m. and the high school jazz band, Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., both at the Volm Theater.

Get ready for the summer Music in the Park series, which kicks off Monday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the City Park bandstand. A clip-and-save schedule was published in Thursday’s Antigo Daily Journal or pick up a brochure available at the Antigo Daily Journal and other locations throughout the community.

MOVIES

Now playing at The Palace Twin Theater are Life of the Party, rated PG-13, and Deadpool 2, rated R.

AUCTIONS, SALES

Antigo Community Church is having a rummage sale today, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. All items are available for a freewill donation, with proceeds to benefit Mothers of Preschoolers. Choose from household items, toys, baby gear, and all sizes of clothing for baby through adult.

A three-family garage sale is taking place today, 3 to 7 p.m., and Saturday starting at 7:30 a.m. at 130 S. Lincoln St. Clothing, sporting goods, holiday decor, kitchen items, crafts and office supplies and even the kitchen sink are all available.

A garage sale will take place starting at 8 a.m. today and Saturday at 211 Anderson drive. Household goods, tools, old beer cans, bottles and steins and Nascar collectibles will all be sold.

There will be a multi-family garage sale at 317 S. Deresch St. today until 4 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon. A grill, antiques, clothes, crafts, fishing items and more will be sold.

Stop by the open house on Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. at 531 School St., White Lake, The one bedroom, one bath home would be a perfect house or cottage.

McDougal’s Farm LLC. will have its unique greenhouse open for two weeks only starting Friday. There will also be a herb garden workshop at 6 p.m. tonight. Hours are May 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Details at mcdougalfarm.com.

The Langlade County Historical Society is accepting donated items for its rummage sale slated Saturday, June 9. Donations may be dropped off during regular business hours by June 2. No clothing or large appliances please.

CoVantage Credit Union is holding its annual loan rally, with on-the-spot financing, through Saturday at the Langlade County Fairgrounds. Participating dealers include Brickner’s of Antigo, Langlade Ford, Parsons of Antigo and Quinlan’s Equipment. Browse the huge selection of new and used cars, trucks, SUVs, campers and lawn equipment. Hours are today, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CLEAN-UP DAYS

The spring clean-up schedule continues across area townships. They include:

Town of Polar: May 19 to 26, Wednesday, 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.

Waste Management and other disposal companies will not accept yard waste, batteries, building demolition, unbagged trash, boats, waste oil, liquid petroleum products, microwaves, televisions and hazardous waste. Appliances must be labeled Freon-free by a certified technician.

FOOTBALL

Baseball season is just getting underway but summer football is just around the corner. Upcoming events and dates include:

—Summer school strength and conditioning class, June 11 to 25.

—Football developmental youth camp, June 5 and 6.

—High school football mini camp, July 16 to 19.

—and Antigo captain lead football 7 on 7, every Monday in June and July.

A Junior Lady Red Robins Basketball Camp for girls in grades five through eight will take place June 5, 6 and 7,8 a.m. to noon, at the Middle School. Register the first day from 8 to 8;30 a.m. It is sponsored by the Antigo High School girls basketball coach. Head coach will be Dale Lenzner with Bruce Brown and Carla Wissbroecker as assistants.

OTHER EVENTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is open Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St.

The White Lake Area Historical Society operates the Depot Museum and Historical Center in White Lake. Hours are Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or by appointment.

Grandview Orchard will continue its spring workshops on Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. The focus will be on basic biological fruit tree care, Preregistration is required. Call 715 216-5821 to register.

Try something different at Book Bauble and Blessings in Neva, located two doors south of Quinn’s. Psychic readings are now available with local clairvoyant Esther Dolphin on Thursdays and one Saturday a month starting this week.
