Seniors honored as Robins take down Mosinee 54-24
space
The Antigo wrestling team wrapped up its conference dual meet schedule Tuesday by defeating Mosinee 54-24. A very fitting way to celebrate senior night.

Coach Ben Olsen spent a few moments recognizing the achievements of Frank Kneeland, Billy Hull, and Brandon Lucht. While managers, Mariah Payne and Annette Olsen, were also recognized for their contributions during their time with the team.

The evening started off on the wrong foot as Mosinee’s Chase Kmosena pinned Antigo’s Ben Brown in 33 seconds in the 106 pound bout.

Antigo came back strong on the mat with wins in the next eight matches as Conner Dettman (113), Logan Edwards (120), Ben Stimac (126), Dylan Dykstra (132), Hull (138), Lucht (145), Royce Bauer (152), and Korbin Krueger (160) added a combined 48 points to the home teams score.

Pins were earned by Edwards at 2:49, Stimac (1:34), Dykstra (1:07), Hull (2:44), and Krueger (3:13).

We looked really strong tonight, Olsen stated. Our wrestlers are peaking at the right time of year. Dylan is turning into a great surprise this year. He didn't earn a varsity spot until Ben dropped to 126.

Since then Dylan has looked fantastic. It's nice to see a sophomore have this kind of success. Korbin had the best match of the night. He avenged a loss to his opponent (Andy Ellis). He lost to him at an earlier tournament this year. Korbin looked great pinning him in the second period.

At 170 Mosinee gained six points as Jaydon Cherek pinned Kneeland late in the match at 5:08.

Trading points in the final three matches, Collinn Eldridge at 195 gave a don’t blink or you’ll miss it performance for the Robins as he pinned Ben Folwarski in 47 seconds.

Mosinee’s final points on the night came in the 220 and 285 matchups as Gideon Sass and Nick Roller were pinned by the Indians. The late surge brought Mosinee closer but not enough to overpower the strong Antigo squad.

In exhibition matches, Sam Hoffman defeated Mosinee’s Riley Alcoba with a 14-3 major decison. Jaden Schoeneck also saw success over Alcoba with a pin in 1:32 and Josh Heuss took 32 seconds to pin Matthew Fochs of Mosinee.

Antigo's next meet is the Great Northern Conference tournament on Feb. 3 at Lakeland High School. Wresstling begins at 10 a.m.
