Hornets boys have close game against Marion, fall 64-60
space
The Elcho boys basketball team hosted Marion Tuesday night in a non-conference contest and confronted a strong defense that would overtake them in the end. The Hornets found the early lead, but fell 64-60 to put them at 1-2 overall this season.

The Hornets lost the tip-off but went on an 8-0 run to start the game. Despite the promising start the boys quickly found Marion tying it up with 10:46 left in the first half, and they wouldn't let down from there. The Mustangs began a full court press that kept pressure on the ball giving them the opportunity to take the lead with 7:20 left.

Offensively, we were put out of our game," said Hornets Head Coach Eric Strzok. And our defense was lacking tonight as well."

Marion's lead would increase to as much as 10 before foul trouble would give Elcho an opportunity. They took advantage of being a man strong on the court, and the Hornets were able to close the deficit to just three by the end of the half.

The game stayed close in the second, but the Mustangs defense kept the pressure on causing 29 turnovers and making it difficult for the Hornets to get good looks at the basket.

It was a tough loss tonight," added Strzok. We just didn't play the game we could have, but it's a game for us to learn from."

Mac Morrison lead the way for the Hornets putting up 20 points, followed by Hunter Novak with 14, Alex Winburn added 13, Kristian Klingler had nine, and Cole Kuplfer and Tyler Dettman both got two points.

Dhonivan Haas would lead the way for Marion with 17 points, and Cody Clegg added 12.

The Hornets look forward to improving its Northern Lakes Conference standings on Thursday when they host Florence at Elcho High School.
