space
The Antigo Middle School boy's basketball teams squared off at Horace Mann on Tuesday night.

Neither the eighth grade A or B team came out of the night victorious as Horace Mann pulled out wins in both games, while the seventh grade teams were both winners.

The eighth grade A team ended the contest with 30 points versus Horace Mann's 42.

Despite the loss, Connor Kolz and Henry Berger had success from the field with nine points a piece and Marvin Duchac contributed to the effort with three. Another bright spot was the defensive efforts of Nick Raddish and Whitt Mach noted by coach Dennis Duchac .

The B team had a difficult game going down 39-15. Defense seemed unable to figure out Horace Mann, but coach Kaylee Marien said that Ben Beattie worked hard and had a good game pulling down rebounds. The leading scorers for the Antigo boys were Caden Kautza and Zach Zupon with four points each.

The 7th grade teams both came out on top of Horace Mann. The A team had an exciting finish while the B team kept Horace Mann at bay throughout the game.

The A team thriller saw Antigo go up by six when Dane Fredrickson hit a clutch three pointer late in the game.

Horace Mann battled back however, and were on top by one with only 14 seconds left. Antigo inbounded to Connor Cornelius who was fouled with 7.8 seconds remaining. Connor went on to make both free throws to give the boys a 48-47 lead and they held on for the win.

Trevor Tarras had a big game, leading the team in scoring with 21 points. The team shot 14-22 from the foul line in the second half.

The B team didn't have an issue holding off Horace Mann, winning 37-12.

Numerous players contributed to the win with Ayden Gabriel putting up 10 points, Wesley McCauly had nine, Kias Washatko and Jesse Rueppel had six each, Jacob Hanus scored four, and Kyler Klessig Bates had two.

Head Coach Tim Krueger attributed the win to putting pressure on the ball and overall good defense.

The AMS boys hoops teams will next play at home on Thursday, taking on Marshfield.
