All that’s left of Thanksgiving dinner is a picked over carcass and a few dollops of sweet potatoes, so its time to hit the stores.

Black Friday—the sort of official start to the Christmas holiday—has arrived and the excitement is starting to build toward Christmas.

A look at events, taken from the advertising columns, follows.

HOLIDAY SHOPPING

Its Christmas at Frisch Greenhouses! The store will open Monday at 10 a.m. with 40 percent off all Christmas decorations and gifts. Roping, ruscus, boughs and wreaths are also available now.

Potawatomi Carter Casino Hotel will hold its 18th annual craft fair and holiday bazaar on Saturday. Choose from jewelry and beadwork, body lotion and soaps, photography and paintings, wreaths and swags, holiday items, purses, candles and decorations, handcrafted wooden items and much more.

Antigo Visual Arts will host a holiday open house at the AVA Gallery located in the Langlade County Historical Society Museum on Friday, Dec. 1, 5 to 7 p.m. There will be free wine and cheese along with hot mulled cider and a chance to browse the creative talents of local artists. Take part in the judging of the handmade Christmas tree ornaments, which will be available for sale with proceeds to Aspirus Langlade Hospital Auxiliary.

Hickey’s Floral and Gifts is bursting at the seams with new Christmas decor, mixed fresh roping, wreaths, boughs and gift ideas. November holiday hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

Vendors and crafters are wanted for the sixth annual Christmas craft bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Elcho Community Pavilion. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call Warren Wagner at 715 275-3134 to reserve a spot.

MORE HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS

Classic Hits 98.7 FM and 900 AM is now playing Christmas music around the clock starting on Monday.

This Christmas, remember someone special with a Love Light available from the Aspirus Langlade Hospital Auxiliary. They are on sale at the hospital’s volunteer desk.

MOVIES

Now showing at The Palace Twin Theater are Justice League, rated PG-13, and Coco, rated PG.

FOOD AND DRINK

Borucki’s Country Store in Elton will host a Woodland Trail Winery wine tasting on Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m.

Vickie and the Vets will feature some southern comfort food in a fund-raiser for the Langlade County Humane Society on Thursday. Enjoy chicken tenders and waffles, served with choice of maple syrup or white gravy from 4 to 7 p.m., along with choice of cole slaw or peach ice cream Vickie will also be serving up Southern Comfort Old-Fashioneds.

SPORTS

Little Lady Red Robins Basketball Camp, for girls in grades one through four, will take place on Saturdays, Dec. 2, 9 and 16, at the Middle School multi-purpose gymnasium. Hours are 8 a.m. to noon. Cost is $10 per person or $15 per family. Register on day one from 8 to 8:30 a.m. The camp is sponsored by the high school girls basketball program with Dale Lenzner as head coach.

OTHER EVENTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum has switched to winter hours. It is open Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St.

The White Lake Area Historical Society operates the Depot Museum and Historical Center in White Lake. Winter hours are Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or by appointment.
