Red Robin runners' season ends at sectional race
space
Lake Breeze Golf Course in Neenah played host to Friday’s WIAA division 1 sectional cross country 5K race, one the Red Robin harriers attended.

It was a beautiful day for the runners, Antigo Coach April Bembenek noted. Although the competion was tough, the Robins still pushed themselves and performed to their best ability which was a great ending to the season. We were missing both a male and female runner from our top five crew to injury today so that hurt our overall team score. However, overall this year all the runners continually improved their times and became better runners all around.

Matt Meinke of Neenah led the pack with a time of 15:57.25 and advanced to the state meet as an individual. Other top five runners advancing are, Ryan Hartman, Wausau West, 16:25.36; Isaiah Winowiski, D.C. Everest, 16:26.69; Joseph McKee, Marshfield, 16:29.73; and Jordan Dzikowich, Marshfield at 16:30.02.

Stevens Point qualified as a team with 45 points, as did Appleton North with 81.

On a whole, Antigo finished 12th overall with 362 points. Running for the Robins were, Zach Morris who finished 65th with a time of 18:29.43; Logan Edwards, 67th at 18:56.71; Deiontae Barner, 69th at 19:04.02; Cody Urban, 80th at 20:29.74; Nick Marshall, 81st at 20:30.49; and Kaden Steckbauer, 82nd at 20:32.64.

For the ladies, Mary Rose Flood placed second and will advance individually with a time of 19:11.97. Also making the state meet cut were Mariah Haight, Wausau East, 19:13.19; Maddy Vantassel, Appleton West, 19:31.94; Krista Baumgartner, Neenah, 19:43.04; and Katelyn Spooner, D.C. Everest, 19:53.67.

Brooke Jaworski finished first at 19:08.78 and helped in qualifying Wausau West for state competion as a teamwith 66 points. Stevens Point also qualified as a team with 69 points.

The Lady Robins finished 12th as a team with 366 points and was led by Jami Nonnenmacher, 61st place with a time of 23:12.33. Evie LeVeque placed 74th at 24:43.37; Ella Kohler was 75th at 24:44.89; and Emily Gravitter was 80th at 26:27.05.

We will be losing a few seniors, the coach added, but I look forward to seeing the younger crew improve over the next few years.
