space
A 52-year-old Albany, Wis. man, who was arrested on April 5 after arriving at a hotel in Antigo to meet who he thought was a 13-year-old girl, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.

Gene Schneider, who was convicted of child exploitation, received the sentence today in federal court.

Schneider was also accused of using social media and his cell phone to exchange sexually explicit pictures with underage girls throughout the United States, including Wisconsin, as well as Great Britain.

According to online court records, Schneider was communicating with whom he thought was a 13-year-old girl via a computer between March 16 and April 5.

Schneider was actually interacting with a Langlade County Sheriff’s Deputy. During the exchanges, he sent several sexually explicit messages, including photos of he genitals, despite being told several times the girl was 13.

He arranged a meeting at the Holiday Inn Express in Antigo and arrived, but never exited his vehicle as he spotted law enforcement.

He preceded to drive out of the hotel parking lot and fled, leading officers on a chase through Langlade, Lincoln and into Marathon County at speeds of more than 100 miles-per-hour. The chase ended when officers utilized a stop maneuver near Maple Ridge Road in Kronenwetter.

After originally being charged in Langlade County, it was decided to turn the case over to federal authorities.

Schneider will also serve eight years of extended supervision following his release.
