Lady Robins take two at home triangular
space
Monday turned out to be almost picture perfect for the Lady Robins as they hosted Medford and Phillips in a girls tennis triangular.

Antigo topped Medford 6-1 while downing Phillips 7-0. Medford defeated Phillips 7-0 as well.

We started with a match against Medford, Antigo Coach Aimee Hein said. And all of our singles players won rather easily. The doubles teams, however, had tougher opponents on their hands.

Singles players Maya Gaedtke (No. 1), Izzy Matuszewski (back at No. 2), Ellie Kelly (no. 3), and Adie Smith (No. 4) swept their opponents in straight sets with the majority being 6-0.

Abby Robrecht and Taylor Arrowood adjusted to the new challenge and took back control of the No. 1 doubles competition rather quickly. Sydney Lenzner and Pia Spychalla were unable to overcome their opponents at No. 2 doubles giving the Robins its only loss.

Finally, at No. 3 doubles, Samantha Belling and Jenna Lenzner started slow but recovered for the win.

The girls (Belling and Lenzner) were lacking a sense of urgency and letting simple errors take over, Hein noted. They managed to keep it close but lost in a tiebreaker. The second set was just as close; this time, though, the girls were able to win the set tiebreaker, taking the match into a third set. At this point, the Lenzner/Belling duo turned it up a couple notches with aggressive net play and more consistent serving for the win.

After a brief break, some of the girls took on an incomplete Phillips team.

Our girls switched up the line-up a bit and had fun pulling out a few more wins for a successful night, she added.

Antigo will be at Lakeland tonight before hosting Columbus Thursday at 5 p.m.
