Antigo Area Weekend Activities

Say farewell to summer and welcome to autumn over the long Labor Day weekend.

It’s bittersweet but exciting as well, as the long days of summer slowly begin to be replaced by the crisp fall nights and, in a few months, winter’s white.

There’s plenty on the weekend docket, including Elton Evergreen Days, the Phlox corn roast, sales galore and movies at the Palace.

A look at events, taken from the advertising columns, follows.

ELTON EVERGREEN DAY

It’s time for Elton Evergreen Days.

The celebration will take place on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., at the Elton School on Highway 64. There will be a corn roast, food and drink, games, craft and bake sale, basket raffle and more

Enjoy music with Wickersheim Sound DJ from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 to 10 p.m. and the country sounds of Lyle and More from 2 to 6 p.m.

All proceeds will benefit Elton School Preservation Society projects.

CORN ROAST

The Phlox Sportsman’s Club will hold its 43rd annual corn roast on Sunday, noon to 10 p.m., at the Norwood Ball Park in Phlox.

There will be refreshments, live music and prizes.

APPRECIATION DINNER

An appreciation dinner will be held Monday, 4 to 6 p.m., at the Polar Recreation ball Park.

Enjoy pasta along with salads and desserts for a free-will offering.

The annual fund-raising raffle drawing will take place at 5 p.m.

MOVIES

Now showing at The Palace Twin Theater are Annabelle, rated R, Despicable Me 3, rated PG, and Wonder Woman, rated PG-13.

MUSIC

Koni K’s Korner Pub in Elcho will offer karaoke with XSIVE Entertainment on Saturday. The fun starts at 8 pm.

SALES

The Maximus flea market returns to the Langlade County airgrounds on Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $2 and there will be thousands of treasures and collectibles.

A huge rummage sale is taking place through Monday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1320 Fifth Ave., Clothing, kitchen and glassware, pictures, plants and more will be sold.

A moving sale is taking place on Saturday starting at 8 a.m. in the Evergreen at 4 Corners, W4104 Hwy. 64. There will be plenty of great stuff, including, antiques and collectibles, country decor, crafts, pottery and holiday decor.

A garage sale will take place on Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 105 10th Ave. Household goods, including a queen-size headboard, Pack & Play, small appliances, clothing and more will be sold.

A large multi-family garage sale is slated for today and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at W9482 Hwy. F. Items include a western saddle, keyboard piano, furniture, dishes, clothing, toys and games and more, A fresh fruit and vegetable stand will also be set up and mum plants available.

OTHER EVENTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is on summer hours. It is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St.

The Old Corner School at Neva Corners will be open through Monday, noon to 4 p.m., or by appointment. Call Peg Aulik at 715 623-4212 to set up a time. The school offers a treasure trove of civic lessons, history, community lore and early life in Langlade County.

The White Lake Area Historical Society operates the Depot Museum and Historical Center in White Lake. Summer hours are Wednesdays and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or by appointment.

A Pray for America rosary crusade will take place on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Norwood ball Park in Phlox. Pray 15 decades and stay as long as you like. Bleachers and benches will be available. All are welcome.

Learn to build your own business at a free Exploring Entreprenuership workshop on Thursday at 5;30 p.m. It will be held at the Langlade County Economic development Corporation office located in the Wood Technology Center at Northcentral Technical College. The full training course will be held on Thursdays, Sept. 21 through Nov. 16 and class size is limited.

Give blood and help save a life. Aspirus Langlade Hospital, in conjunction with the Blood Center of Northcentral Wisconsin, will host a blood drive on Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the hospital conference room. Call the blood center toll-free at 1-866-566-5900 for details. Walk-in donors are always welcome.
