Lady Robins sweep Dons on tennis court
space
The Antigo girls tennis team traveled to Marshfield Tuesday to face Columbus Catholic coming home with a 7-0 sweep.

We had a strong night despite some rearranging on the varsity line-up, Coach Aimee Hein said.

Maya Gaedtke’s serve was on fire at No. 1 singles. Her many aces and confidence gave her a nice 6-2, 6-0 win.

Ellie Kelly stepped up to No. 2 singles and cruised through her matches (6-3, 6-2) once she turned it up a notch to take control of the pace.

Samantha Belling moved over to the singles line-up tonight to play in the No. 3 slot. Belling’s strong ground strokes and hustle earned her the 6-0, 6-1 win.

Adie Smith had a solid match at No. 4 singles which gave her the 6-1, 6-0 win as well.

Doubles action

Abby Robrecht and Taylor Arrowood cruised through their match at No. 1 doubles as did Sydney Lenzner and Pia Spychalla at No. 2 doubles.

The coach mixed things up in the No. 3 spot teaming Noelle Tischendorf with Jenna Lenzner to fill an open spot in its varsity line-up.

Once the girls found their groove and worked through some nerves, they played extremely well, Hein noted. They communicated and were energetic which goes a long way in a doubles match helping us earn the 7-0 victory.

Antigo had a lone exhibition match as well. Emiline Palenciano-Widart, a senior foreign exchange student from France, had a chance to play her first tennis match for the Lady Robins.

She pushed through some uncertainties and earned a well-deserving night, Hein added.

Antigo heads to Rhinelander Thursday for another Great Northern match up starting at 5 p.m.
