Antigo Area Weekend Activities

Paddleboat racing, a motorcycle rumble and the send-off to state for LYVE highlight events in the northwoods this weekend.

There will also be a delicious-sounding chili dump on Wednesday, Antigo’s annual Customer Appreciation celebration, rummage sales, and more as the march through the last month of summer continues.

And starting Thursday make plans for the MC Country Fest on the former Fuddfest grounds in Deerbrook.

A look at events, taken from the advertising columns, follows.

PADDLEBOAT PANDEMONIUM

The Elcho Scholarship Committee will host its third annual Paddleboat Pandemonium, now including paddleboards as well, Saturday at Sammy’s Bar and Grill on Waterpower Lake.

Registration will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by a decorated boat and board parade and races in various heats.

There will be raffles, food, fun and trophies for the best-decorated and fastest boats. Bobby Vintage will provide the tunes.

Entry fee is $20 per two-person team. Paddleboats and boards will be available, or bring your own.

DEERBROOK RUMBLE

Get ready to rumble in Deerbrook.

The fifth annual Deerbrook Rumble and Motorcycle Ride, a fund-raiser for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight, will be held Saturday, headquartered at Held’s Bar.

The ride will leave from the bar, located at the corners of highways H and I, at 11 a.m. and return to the MC Festival grounds at 6:30 p.m. Drink specials and raffles will follow with live music by The ProKrasternators.

LYVE SEND-OFF

Langlade Youth Vocalists and Entertainers, known as LYVE, will hold its send-off to state performance on Sunday at the City Park bandstand.

Food will be available at 6 p.m. with the performance at 7 p.m.

LYVE is preparing for the State Fair.

MUSIC IN THE PARK

The summer Music in the Park series continues Monday night with Rocker performing at 6 p.m. at the City Park bandstand.

The show is sponsored by music donors. Langlade County Right to Life will serve hamburger plates, pie and custard at 5 p.m.

On Thursday, enjoy some bluegrass tunes with 2/3 of Dunn, sponsored by music donors, playing at the bandstand at 6 p.m. Members of the 4-H dog obedience program will serve hot dog plates, drinks, pie and custard at 5 p.m.

Rain location is the Heinzen Pavilion at Peaceful Valley Park.

CUSTOMER APPRECIATION

The community’s annual Customer Appreciation Day will take place on Wednesday at the Langlade County Fairgrounds.

There will be music by LYVE from 5 to 6 p.m. and Jagged Highway from 6 to 9 p.m.

The menu will include Peroutka’s brats for $1.25 each; Edelman’s hot dogs for $1; Sue’s sweet corn, $1; ice cream, $1; and popcorn, 75 cents. Choose from $1.25 beers, and 75 cent sodas or waters.

Admission is free.

MC COUNTRY FEST

Get your tickets now and your camping gear ready for MC Country Fest, kicking off Thursday for a three-day run at the former Fuddfest grounds in Deerbrook.

Thursday is billed as Classic Country Night. Lovin’ Country opens at 4 p.m. with Kevin Moore at 8 p.m. and Thunder Country at 9 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 11 begins with the MC Star Karaoke Contest at noon. Koltrane takes the stage at 4 p.m.; Kevin Moore at 9 p.m.; and Raised Reckless at 10 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 12 opens with Genessee Depot at noon and Whiskey Wylin at 5 p.m. Brushville closes at 10 p.m.

One day pass is $25 and weekend admission, $50. Camping package is $150.

The campground opens this Saturday at 8 a.m. to allow people to set up their campers and RVs.

PICNICS, DINING

Calvary Lutheran Church will hold a chili dump, with proceeds to benefit outreach ministries, on Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the church. Come over for a bowl of hot chili or call 715 623-3102 today for group orders. Take-outs are available. Chili is $3 per bowl.

St. Matthew Lutheran Church in White Lake will hold an all-you-can-eat fish boil tonight, 4 to 7 p.m., at the church. Hot dogs will also be served, along with lots of desserts. Carryouts are available. Cost is $10 for adults and $4 for children under 13. Non-perishable items will be accepted for the White Lake Area Food Pantry.

SPORTS

The Langlade County Tavern League will hold a golf outing fund-raiser on Monday at Bass Lake Golf Course. There will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start for the four-person scramble. There will also be hole prizes, raffles and a prime rib dinner in the evening.

MOVIES

Now showing at The Palace Twin Theater are Dunkirk, rated PG-13, and The Emoji Movie, rated PG.

Screenings are Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9 p.m.; Sunday through Thursday at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The Palace offers $5 Tuesdays with all movies just $5 and extra shows at 3 p.m. Get a free small popcorn too.

SALES

A too much stuff sale is being held today until 6 p.m. at 437 Mayfair St. Tons of items, including clothing, tools, household goods and more are available.

A four family rummage sale is taking place today until 7 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at N3209 Ackley Rd., near Riverview Golf Course. Everything must go.

REUNIONS

The Antigo High School class of 1966 will hold its annual luncheon on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at The Refuge.

Teachers and friends of the Antigo High School class of 1967 are invited to join class members for their 50th reunion on Saturday at 7 p.m. at North Star Lanes.

OTHER EVENTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is on summer hours. It is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St.

The Old Corner School at Neva Corners will be open Sept. 2 through 4 or by appointment. Call Peg Aulik at 715 623-4212 to set up a time. The school offers a treasure trove of civic lessons, history, community lore and early life in Langlade County.

The White Lake Historical Society is open Wednesdays and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It operates the Depot Museum and adjoining historical center.

Get involved and help save a life. Aspirus Langlade Hospital, in conjunction with the Blood Center of Northcentral Wisconsin, will host a blood drive on Monday, 11:30 a.m, to 5 p.m., in the hospital conference room. Walk-in donors are always welcome.

Maker Fun Factory, an ecumenical Vacation Bible School, will be held Sunday through Wednesday, 5:30 to 8 p.m., at Calvary Lutheran Church. All children ages four years through fifth grade are welcome for music, games and fun. Call Calvary at 715 623-3102 for more information.
