Antigo Area Weekend Activities

The Langlade County Fair is front and center this coming week.

But there is more on the agenda as well, including music, sports and plenty of dining.

Check the Antigo Daily Journal’s special fair pullout sections that will be included with Monday’s newspaper along with the daily schedule listings beginning on Tuesday.

A review of other events, taken from the advertising columns, follows:

MUSIC IN THE PARK

Due to the Langlade County Fair, which features one or two bands every night through its Wednesday through Sunday run, the summer Music in the Park series is rather light this week.

Monday night will feature the Hayek Family with an Elvis Tribute at 6:30 p.m. at the City Park bandstand. The show is sponsored by The Green Hen and Natural Living Market.

Pie and custard will be served by the Antigo Garden Club at 5:30 p.m.

Rain location for Antigo concerts is the Heinzen Pavilion at Peaceful Valley Park.

MATTOON FUN DAY

The Greater Mattoon Area Advancement Association will host Mattoon Fun Day on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the grounds of the Mattoon Elementary school.

There will be two bounce houses, a petting zoo, face painting, kick ball, obstacle course, dunk tank and craft sale. Bingo is planned from 2 to 4 p.m.

There will also be a taco bar, snacks and drinks.

ART TOUR

The annual Northwoods Art Tour is slated July 28 through 30, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with a free self-guided tour across the northwoods.

There will be artist demos and original artwork for sale.

Maps are available at area galleries and chambers of commerce or by visiting northwoodsarttour.com. For more information, call 715 385-3334.

SPORTS

A double dip youth golf tournament will take placed Monday, July 24 at Riverview Golf Course and Monday, July 31 at Bass Lake Country Club. There are two divisions, with grades five through seven playing six holes and eighth through 10th graders competing over nine holes. No pre-registration is necessary Sign up by 8 a.m. the day of the tourney with tee off at 9 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Antigo Golf Club.

PICNICS, DINING

Elcho United Church of Christ Men’s Club will host steak on the grill on Wednesday at the Elcho Community Pavilion. Doors open at 4 p.m. with serving at 5 p.m. The menu will include rib eye steak with potatoes au gratin, green beans salad bar, dessert and beverage.

It’s ribs night at Vickie and the Vets tonight. Serving will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. They go fast so call ahead to guarantee a plate.

White Lake ATV/UTV Club will host the famous Suzy Q steak fry on Saturday starting at noon at the White Lake Pavilion. Enjoy a New York Strip dinner and refreshments. There will also be music, door prizes, paddle wheel and raffles.

MOVIES

Now showing at the Palace Twin Theater are Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and War for the Planet of the Apes, both rated PG-13 .

Both movies can be seen on Friday and Saturday at 6:45 and 9:15 p.m.; Sunday through Thursday at 5:15 and 7:45 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The Palace offers $5 Tuesdays with all movies just $5 and extra shows at 3 p.m. Get a free small popcorn too.

SALES

There will be a two-family rummage sale today, 5 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon, at 909 Lincoln St. A treadmill, dishes, microwave, shop vac, chain saw, range hood, clothes, toys and lots of odds and ends will be sold.

OTHER EVENTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is on summer hours. It is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The complex includes the Carnegie library building, Deleglise Cabin and 440 locomotive and caboose. It is located at 404 Superior St.

The Old Corner School at Neva Corners will be open Sept. 2 through 4 or by appointment. Call Peg Aulik at 715 623-4212 to set up a time. The school offers a treasure trove of civic lessons, history, community lore and early life in Langlade County.

The White Lake Historical Society is open Wednesdays and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It operates the Depot Museum and adjoining historical center.

Help AmeriGas support the Langlade County Humane Society. On Friday, July 28 get a 20-pound gas cylinder filled for $10 with a donation for the society. The shelter will have pets on hand available for adoption. Come and meet a new friend.

Family Planning Health Services Inc. has new leadership and a new direction. Now known as HealthFirst, it will hold an open house on Monday, 4 to 7 p.m. at the clinic located at 2215 Progress Blvd., Suite A.

Antigo United Methodist Church will worship in the park on Sunday at 10 a.m. in the shelter on the west side of City Park. The contemporary Christian band Taraforming will be featured. Bring a lawn chair. A picnic will follow.
