space
The Antigo American Legion baseball team split a home doubleheader with Marshfield on Thursday night, falling in game one 3-2, and bouncing back with a 7-0 win in the nightcap.

Game one saw a pitcher’s duel between Antigo’s Jesse Jankowski and Marshfield ace Jake Brueggen. With Antigo serving as the visiting team on the scoreboard for the Wisconsin Valley Legion League contest, Matt Winter scored the initial run in the top of the first inning on a passed ball.

The score would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the third, when the Blue Devils went ahead 2-1, as Andy Goettl and Walker Wiethruth reached on consecutive errors. Logan Jakobi would then drive in a run with a sacrifice fly and Paul MaGuire put his team ahead with a single.

The Typhoon tied the contest in the top of the sixth, as Jake Husnick led off with a single, which set up Garrett Held’s RBI double to the right-center field fence.

Marshfield would get the walk off win in the bottom of the seventh however, as an Antigo error allowed Ryan Krueger to score the winning run for the Blue Devils.

Jankowski went the distance for the Typhoon and took the hard luck loss. Thanks to defensive miscues, none of Jankowski’s three runs allowed were earned. He gave up just four hits, while walking three and striking out two.

Held led Antigo at the plate with two hits.

Game two featured another solid pitching performance for the Antigo Legion squad. A.J. Kirsch and Nick Marshall would combine for the shut out. Kirsch went four innings and allowed three hits while striking out five. Marshall went the remaining three and did not allow a base runner, while striking out four.

The contest was scoreless until the bottom of the second inning, when a run scoring triple from Wade Farmer, and an RBI double from Winter made it 2-0 in favor of the Typhoon.

Winter knocked in another run with a single in the fourth to give his team a three run lead, and Antigo then put the game out of reach with a big four run fifth. Collin Meinert and Marshall delivered run scoring singles, Jankowski came home on a passed ball and a Marshfield fielding error accounted for the remaining run in the 7-0 final.

Meinert led Antigo with a three for three night. He also scored three times. Winter added two base knocks as well.

The Antigo Legion team is now 11-8 overall and 8-5 in the Wisconsin Valley Legion League. They Typhoon will finish their regular season with a league game at D.C. Everest on Saturday.
