Antigo All-Stars run ends with disappointing loss
space
The Antigo 12-year-old Little League All Star team saw their run in the District Five tournament come to a disappointing end on Monday night, as they fell to Wausau American 12-5 at Wausau’s Doepke Park.

The game was scoreless until a disastrous third inning put Wausau American up by a score of 6-0. American took advantage of two key Antigo errors, several passed balls, two walks and recorded four hits in the frame, including a hard hit double by Bryce Heil.

Antigo finally got on the board in the top half of the fourth inning, as Dane Fredrickson reached on a throwing error by the American shortstop, and Trevor Tarras and Reed Kuenzli followed with singles to load the bases. That set the stage for Connor Cornelius, who delivered a two run single to make it a 6-2 ball game.

American added a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Antigo got back on the board in the fifth. Trevin Walbeck led off with a single and would come around to score on a Fredrickson double to again get his team within four runs.

Wausau American officially put the game out of reach in their half of the fifth with another five runs. In an inning eerily similar to the third, American plated their scores thanks to two Antigo errors, two walks, a hit batsmen, and two hits, including another RBI double from Heil.

Antigo attempted to rally in the sixth, as Cornelius led off with a hit and scored on a smash to the gap by Hunter Aiuppy that turned into a triple. They would get no closer however in the 12-5 final.

Cornelius and Aiuppy led Antigo with two for two performances, with Fredrickson, Walbeck, Marvin Duchac, Trevor Tarras, Kuenzli, and Paden Michalik all adding one hit each. Antigo did out hit American for the game 10-7.

Caden Kautza started on the mound and went a solid two and two thirds innings, allowing four runs, but only two earned on two hits, while striking out six.

Fredrickson relieved him and went one and two thirds, and was charged for eight runs, but only five earned on six hits. He recorded three punch outs.

Walbeck retired the only two batters he faced.

American moves on in the double elimination tournament and is scheduled to face the winner of Merrill and Northwoods tonight at 7 p.m. Wausau National and Rhinelander will battle on the other side of the bracket.

The tournament continues through Friday, with the winner moving on to the state tournament in West Bend.
