Elks present scholarships, honor teens

The Antigo Lodge, which serves an extensive area of northern Wisconsin, hosted recipients of the Teens of the Month, those who will receive scholarships from the local and national orders, and named the Teens of the Year Wednesday evening.

Grace Tews and Cole Johnson, both students at Antigo High School, were named the Teens of the Year.

The teens and their families are invited to the lodge for a dinner, and what has become a snappy program under the direction of Exalted Ruler Heather DeBroux and Brian Blink.

DeBroux welcomed the crowd, telling the young people they had done an excellent job in earning the accolades from the Elks and its local and state scholarship committees. She also offered an Elks prayer to open the dinner program.

Following the meal, Blink opened the awards program, turning over to Bob Anderson, who introduced the scholarship recipients. He praised the field of entries this year, saying that six ofthe six who entered the college/university competition all will get $1,000, and the lodge was able to provide two vocational scholarships this year.

The scholarship recipients included Abigail Luerssen, Samantha Schuessler, Thomas Blink, Haley Sisel, John Misina, David Mendham, all will receive $1,000.

The two vocational school scholarship recipients are Lydia Black and Michelle Umland.

Brennon Brown was the Constitution Contest winner, and received $250.

The Teens of the Month award winners were:

September: Nikita Deep and William Dixon.

October: Maria Maierhofer and Drew Schwarz.

November: Brenna DeNamur and Noah Kubacki.

December: Alivia Weix and Brennon Brown.

January: Emily Wald and Matthew Arndt.

February: Abigail Luerssen and Tommy Blink.

March: Molly Brown and Cole Johnson.

April: Grace Tews and Mitchell Schroepfer.
