Middle School bowlers give strong showing at state tourney

Antigo Middle School club bowling team concluded its 2017 season with a trip to the 2017 Wisconsin Middle School Bowling Club State tournament held May 6-7 at Dale’s Weston Lanes.

Antigo had a strong showing in its girls team consisting of Katie Kirsch, Quinlan McCarthy, Ashlea Kreager, Chloe Knapkavage, Makala Beck, and Mya Patterson.

Out of 16 teams from around the state, the Antigo girls finished in third place with a total pin count of 1,891 over 12 games, which gave them an average of 157.5.

The girls hard work put in throughout the season showed during the Saturday competition.

Everyone stepped up their game, and made shots when they needed to. I couldn’t be more proud of the girls, coach Rick Fermanich said.

Antigo also had three qualifiers for the State singles event.

Representing the girls were Ashlea Kreager, and Quinlan McCarthy while William Kubeny represented the boys.

Kubeny’s  games consisted of 222, 158, and 215 for a total of 595, leaving him with a ninth place finish. McCarthy’s games consisted of 138, 157, and 190 for a total of 489, for an 11th place finish.

Antigo’s highest place finish came from Ashlea Kreager with a huge 256 start, followed by a 203, and 168 for a total of 627 which landed her in second place.
