space
The Antigo High School girls softball team maintained its roll Saturday with a doubleheader sweep at Wisconsin Rapids, 5-3 and 16-5.

The Lady Robins have now won nine straight games and are 18-2 overall.

Perched at 8-1 in the Great Northern Conference, Antigo visits Marshfield today for a 4:30 p.m. game, travels to GNC foe Rhinelander Tuesday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader, before hosting a 5 p.m. Thursday showdown with 9-1 GNC leader Mosinee.

As of today, the Robins are rated the top honorable mention pick in the Division 2 WisSportsNet Coaches poll, although their weekend wins are not factored. Mosinee holds a 14-4 overall record as of today.

The Lady Robins held off a late Rapids rally to win its first game and were led at the plate by Kendall Smith who cracked two hits, including a long two-run homer in the third inning which gave her squad a 5-0 lead.

The Raiders scored a run in the sixth inning and two in the seventh to draw close.

Allison Kondzela handled mound duties well in getting the win. She scattered six hits, issued only one walk and registered seven strikeouts.

Antigo fell behind early in the second game before responding in a big way.

After plating two runs in the first inning and another in the third, the Robins trailed by 5-3 thanks to a five-run Raider third inning.

Antigo plated two runs in the fourth inning, and four in the fifth, before closing things out with a seven-run sixth inning.

The Robins clubbed 16 hits, led by Laurissa Belot and Kondzela with three each, each drilling a double, Kondzela driving in four runs and Belot two. Abi Fleischman, Smith and Molly Fermanich each drilled two hits apiece, one of Fermanich’s a two bagger. She drove in three runs.

Kendall (Smith) did a great job on the mound being able to keep her composure after giving up five runs in the third inning, Robrecht noted. And everyone had a hit and contributed. We had two good team wins today.
