Greta Stowe said her mom, Rita, was best because she made me alive and without her I wouldn’t be here now,’ while Devyn Peschke said her mother, Kendra, is never short on kisses even in front of my friends.

Their letters took top honors in the Antigo/Langlade County Chamber of Commerce Mother of the Year contest, a time-honored tradition that dates back decades.

Greta’s letter about her mom won in the kindergarten to fifth grade category, with Jessica Odden taking second for a letter written about her mom, Jessica.

Devyn was the winner in the sixth through 12th grade division for the missive she dictated to Antigo Middle School staff as part of Wendy Simonis’ special education class.

Second went to Jackson Smith for a letter about his mother, Jackie.

The winners and runners-up received a range of flowers and gifts donated by local businesses, including Antigo Dental Clinic, Cornerstone Chiropractic & Wellness, Country Kitchen, CoVantage Credit Union, Culver's, Frisch Greenhouses, H&R Block, Hydratight, Lakeside Market, Palace Theater and The Refuge.

Why my Mom is the best...

My Mom is the best because she always takes care of me. She puts my needs before hers. And she never complains even when things get hard. My Mom is the most unselfish person I know. She makes a lot of sacrifices, so I can be healthy and happy. My Mom likes to make me laugh with her goofy faces. And is never short on kisses even in front of my friends. (I really don’t mind). My mom likes to snuggle with me when I’m not feeling well. And it always makes me feel better. My Mom is my best friend.

Dear Chamber of Commerce,

I want to tell you why my mother is the best. My mother is the best because she made me alive and without her I wouldn't be here right now. My mom is the best cause she always cares for me and my brother, and she loves us so, so much and she always shows me that she loves me with hugs and kisses. My mom is a very, very good mom because she makes me feel better when I am sad. I love my mom 'cause she is very, very nice and kind to me, she always kisses me everyday before I get in the car to go to school. I always feel so happy when she comes back from a trip even if it is a short one. My mother is very nice because she lets me do most things that I want to do and I am lucky because I get lots of presents for my birthday and Christmas from her. My mother is the best because she helps a lot of people because she is a nurse practitioner at the hospital and for as long as I know I think she has been a nurse for her whole job life.

My mom is special because she wants me to success in anything that I feel like I am good at and that I want to do. My mom is the best mom because she let me, my brother, my dad and her to Disney World for one week. My mom is best cause I got to get a kitten for my birthday. One thing that is cool about my mom is that she was one of my dad's students for tennis and my dad was her coach. My mom is best because she is kind and nice to everyone and she helps everyone too. My mom is very, very smart and social she likes being kind to strangers. That is why my mom should be the best mom of the year and if she does, she totally deserves it.

My mom will be so, so happy if she gets picked to be the best mom out of them all. That is why I think that my mom is the best, because she is.

Why My Mother is the Best

I think my mother is the best because she has four kids and is actually able to take care of all of them without a big mess. She always finds something to do when we are board. My mom makes everything fair so that we don’t fight. She helps all of us do our homework when we don’t understand it. She helps my brother read when he can’t figure out a word that is long. My mom also makes sure that all of our home is done. She is also a loving and caring person, she loves to help so much people if they need help. My mom also helps donate a lot of money to my school. She donates to my school so much and is able to help my school a little bit. My mom will also, most of the time, be the one to drive me to places that I need to be at. She is the one that always packs my lunch. My mom is the best mom in the world. That is why I think she should be the mother of the year.

Why My Mom is the Best

Almost everybody has a parent, guardian or just someone they look up to. Each person including me thinks that their parent or guardian is better than anyone else's. My mom's name is Jackie Smits and she is kind, caring, and hardworking. She has been a stay at home mom for a long time but is still very hardworking. At home she makes sure that the house is in order, and everything is clean, including laundry and the dishes.

Also, almost every night she prepares excellent meals for our family when I come back from school and my dad comes home from work. She does a great amount of work for my family and loves us greatly. She works hard at home out of love and care for our family and does not expect much in return. Even though she deserves better, I sometimes disobey her rules of keeping my room clean and turning in my homework in on time. I know that this upsets her, but that shows that she cares. When she gets upset about my grades it's because she cares about me and knows that I can do better. I do have a great amount of respect for her because of what she does for our family. She has one of the most important jobs in the world, being a mother. Her job does not come with a paycheck like other jobs and she isn't able to take the day off because she is a stay at home mother and is always cleaning, running errands, preparing meals, or just doing what a mom does. She will always be mother and will always care about me and my family. Likewise, I will always care about her and think that she is the best mom ever.
