Antigo Area Weekend Activities

The first weekend of the month may bring some April showers, but Brewer baseball begins Monday so things are looking up.

The days ahead will also bring the Antigo Idol competition, plenty of dining opportunities and more.

A look at events, taken from the newspaper’s advertising columns, follows:

ENTERTAINMENT

Who will be the next Antigo Idol? Find out at the annual Antigo High school talent show next Friday, April 7, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Volm Theater. Tickets will be on sale in the high school commons from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. starting Wednesday and will also be available at the door. All seats are $5. The event is sponsored by the Student Council.

MC Country Music Fest, formerly the Fuddfest, presents a karaoke contest at Held’s Bar in Deerbrook on Saturdays, April 1 and May 13, at 8 p.m. Qualifiers will win weekend passes to the country fest Aug. 10 through 12 along with performing in the MC Star Karaoke Contest. There will also be a chance to win $300 and tickets to the 2018 festival.

SPORTS

Get ready for the Milwaukee Brewers opening day Monday at Neve’s Floors to Go, Furniture and Mattress Gallery. The store will be hosting an opening day tailgate party Monday, noon to 4 p.m. There will be all the traditional ballpark fare including hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, soda and cookies. Register to win four baseball tickets and a Brewer rug.

The Langlade County Trap Club will hold its annual spring meeting on Thursday beginning at 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge. Teams are now forming. Trap club hours are Sundays, 1 to 4 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 9 p.m.

Sign-ups are underway now for Polar’s Langlade County Junior League baseball teams. For A-Team, ages 12 to 15,, and B-Team, ages 9-12, call Tony Hangartner at 715 627-4150; and C-Team, ages five to 8, coach Ryan Medo at 715 550-4668.

MOVIES

Now showing at the Palace Twin Theater are Boss Baby, rated PG and Beauty and the Beast, rated PG.

Boss Baby can be seen on Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9 p.m.; Sunday through Thursday at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Beast is showing Friday and Saturday at 6:45 and 9 p.m.; Sunday through Thursday at 5:15 and 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The Palace offers $5 Tuesdays with all movies just $5 and extra shows at 3 p.m. Get a free small popcorn too.

DINING

Sts. James and Stanislaus Parish at White Lake will host an all-you-can-eat fish fry tonight, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the White Lake School cafeteria. Cost is $9 per person, free for children ages three and under.

A sunshine ham breakfast will be held on Sunday, 7:30 to 11 a.m., at SS. Mary & Hyacinth Church Hall. The menu will include ham, scrambled eggs, potatoes, egg bakes, pancakes, fruit, breakfast pastries, cinnamon rolls, juice, coffee and milk. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages four to 12 and free for children three and under.

The Antigo Lions Club will hold its ninth annual spaghetti dinner Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Swartzendruber’s Supper Club. Enjoy all-you-can-eat spaghetti for $7. There will be continuous meat, 50/50 and other raffles including prime ribs, pork loins, hams, bacon, hot dogs, liquor, jewelry, steaks and more. The drawing for the 28th annual sportsman’s raffle will be at 3 p.m.

Thursday will be your lucky day at The Truck Stop on Antigo’s south side. The restaurant will be serving corned beef, cabbage and all the trimmings.

The Antigo Elks will hold its 16th annual smelt and fish fry next Friday, April 7 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the lodge. The all-you-can eat menu will include smelt, fish, parsley-buttered potatoes, cole slaw, rye bread, coffee and milk. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under.

HUMANE FUND-RAISERS

There are several opportunities to support the Langlade County Humane Society.

Pavers for Paws is a great gift-giving idea. Purchase 4 by 8 inch customized pavers for $100, or 8 by 8 inch bricks for $200 for the new brick walkway/patio as a permanent testament of your support of the society and the animals it helps. Business sponsorships are available for $325.

In addition, Juli Bauknecht and Caring Paws is hosting an online auction continuing through 7 p.m. today. All proceeds will benefit the society’s medical fund. Go to caringpawswi.com for details.

OTHER EVENTS

The Langlade County Historical Society Museum is operating on winter hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.

The White Lake Area Historical Society is open Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or by appointment.

Schroeder’s will host a fashion and wine party this afternoon, 4 to 6:30 p.m. Models will be strolling throughout the store displaying the hottest new styles. Get 20 percent off clothing storewide, enter to win door prizes, and receive a free bottle of wine with your purchase of $100 or more.

Quinlan’s Equipment is in the midst of its Customer Appreciation Sale Days now through Saturday. There’s special pricing, door prizes, sand refreshments.
