Out-of-control vehicle crashes here Saturday
space
A quite unusual accident brought excitement to Antigo’s mid-section early Saturday afternoon when an out-of-control vehicle roared through a lot, accelerated over a retaining wall and plowed into a van before coming to rest in a residential lawn.

The Antigo Police Department is still investigating the incident which involved a vehicle operated by Peter S. Dziondziakowski, 60, of Bryant.

Witnesses told police that the Dziondziakowski vehicle was leaving BP South in the 300 block of Superior Street when it “jumped and took off.” It traveled through a neighboring property, rolled down a small wall and over concrete steps, just missing a corner of a building. It then struck a parked van owned by Northcentral Caravans with enough force to turn it over. The vehicle then continued over a metal fence before coming to a stop in the back yard separating homes at 620 and 624 Eighth Ave.

Damage was substantial enough to both the Dziondziakowski vehicle and the van that both had to be towed from the scene. The driver told investigators that he was not certain what caused the vehicle to accelerate out of control or why he could not stop it.

Antigo EMS responded along with police to the scene but injuries were not reported as serious.
