22 associated with school district here honored on retirement, served 538 years

Twenty-two veteran employees with ties to education, with a combined 538 years of experience, were honored on the eve of their retirements Wednesday.

The recognition social, held at the Edison Club, was hosted by the Antigo Unified School District in conjunction with the Antigo Education Association, the union representing teachers.

The program and light buffet drew wide variety of school staffers and administrators, retirees, family and friends.

Also honored were eight staff members with 25 years of experience each, and out-going members of the board of education.

The lion’s share of the evening was devoted to the retirees.

They include:

Donna Ballschmieder, 30 years, North Elementary grade two.

Catherine Cain, 20 years, 9-12 art.

Judy Dahms, 16 years, North Elementary grade three.

Cynthia Erickson, 15 years, West Elementary cross categorical.

Tim Fischer, 29 years, Crestwood Elementary grade five.

Janet Fischer, 14 years, high school cross categorical.

Mary Fittante, 34 years, West Elementary grade two.

Roger Gut, 16 years, Middle School cross categorical.

Mary Jarek, 29 years, high school and West Elementary speech and language clinician.

Carol Koszarek, 18 years, Middle School food service.

Paula Krueger, 20 years, Pleasant View grade one.

Janet Lawton, 15 years, elementary art.

Mary Neufeld, 29 years, West Elementary lead teacher/grade two.

Sandra Nielsen, 23 years, East Elementary instructional assistant.

Greg Parise, 19 years, high school guidance counselor.

Kay Parise, 24 years, Spring Valley grade five.

Ron Peterka, 39 years, North Elementary custodian.

Susan Schwartz, 21 years, West Elementary kindergarten.

Pat Seis, 34 years, high school kitchen manager.

Kathy Solin, 38 years, central office, secretary, business services and building and grounds.

Diane Weberpal, 36 years, West Elementary grade one.

Tim Zaverousky, 19 years, Middle School custodian.

Twenty-five year honorees included Rick Block, high school American history; Carla Fischer, East kitchen manager; Ann Kleinschmidt, elementary speech/language clinician; Wendy Losser, central office, business office assistant;

John Nedden, high school algebra/geometry; Carol Schafer, elementary, middle and high school band; Mary Umland, Middle School social studies; and Sue Zelinski, high school anatomy/biology.

The social also recognized outgoing school board members Beth Bockes and Joe Kretz, who declined to seek re-election in the April election; and Clark Palmer, who failed to win another term.
