Melody Mill coming back to life Nov. 6, 2009 The Melody Mill, a tavern, dance hall, supper club and all-around fun spot at the intersection of Highways 52 and 45 is getting a big dose of new life.
A fire at the club on Nov. 1, 2006 destroyed the tavern that sat at the corner as an unofficial welcome post to northern Wisconsin. Now his has attracted carpenters from the Marion area and tradesmen from Antigo to get the place going again.
Mike and Connie Karcz have big plans for the busy intersection.
The 2006 fire leveled the kitchen area but an adjoining dance and banquet hall that was constructed in 1976 had a fire wall, and it survived.
The old bar and kitchen were obviously gone, but the dance hall needed work too. The fire had been hot and did structural and interior damage to the structure. But Mike and Connie showed determination and sometime in December they will have a new club, with dining facilities, open on the site.
The building will feature a U-shaped bar with coolers behind it, two pool tables and plenty of room for tables for the dining crowd.
The Karcz’s explained that despite the three-year lull following the fire, they will be back with what is considered some of the best chicken around. And they are preparing a menu with a number of other traditional specialties, including the Friday night fish fry.
They are anxious to get back into the business, and the swarm of carpenters, window installers and others working in the dance hall this week is certainly proof.
