Robin cross country harriers are among the GNC's best

Four members of the Antigo High School boys cross country team along with three from the girls squad were named to the 2009 Great Northern All-Conference team.

Erik Artymiuk, Cody Artymiuk, Sammy Stimac and Caitlin Fleischman received first team honors, Mary Prunty was named to the second team and Caleb Fleischman and Keegan Edwards all received honorable mention.

Boys honors

A three time state qualifier and All-Conference recipient, senior Erik Artymiuk finished second in the GNC, seven seconds behind Evan Lewandowski of Medford, with a time of 17:27. Cody Artymiuk, a sophomore, followed his brother’s footsteps throughout the season by placing third in the conference in 17:28. This is his second time on the first team list.

A newcomer to the sport, sophomore Caleb Fleischman received his first honorable mention nod after taking the 12th spot in 18:30. As did junior Keegan Edwards, a three year veteran on the team improved over the season by finishing 13th in 18:37.

Lakeland won the 2009 boys team championship by scoring 37. Rounding out the standings were Antigo (59), Tomahawk (64), Medford (105), Mosinee (136), and Northland Pines (160).

Girls honors

Sophomore Sammy Stimac makes her second appearance in both the first team award and qualifying for the state tournament. Placing third in the GNC behind Tomahawk’s Rachel Sudbury and Delaney FitzPatrick of Lakeland, Stimac closed out the season with a time of 16:36. As with her brother Caleb, Caitlin Fleischman a sophomore, continued to improve by earning the fourth spot in 17:00.

Also a sophomore, Mary Prunty a veteran to the list, finishing out the 2009 year 14th in the conference in 17:16.

Tomahawk won the 2009 girls team title with a score of 39. Rounding out the standings were Mosinee (63), Lakeland (75), Antigo (75), Merrill (130), Northland Pines (131), and Medford (184).

Second Team— Tyler Bostwick, 17:49, Tomahawk; Justin Smith, 17:51, Lakeland; Nathan Kainz, 18:07, Tomahawk; Matt Juedes, 18:17, Merrill; Brian Theuerkauf, 18:24, Lakeland.

Honorable Mention— Marquis Johnson, 18:27, Lakeland; Caleb Fleischman, 18:30, and Keegan Edwards, 18:37, Antigo; Dan Stieber, 18:46, Mosinee; Josh Barr, 18:47, Tomahawk.

Girls Division

First Team— Rachel Sudbury (Runner of the Year), 15:52, Tomahawk; Delaney FitzPatrick, 16:36, Lakeland; Sammy Stimac, 16:36, and Caitlin Fleischman, 17:00, Antigo; Stephanie Welke, 17:05, Tomahawk.

Second Team— Rachael Miller, 17:06, Tomahawk; Lindsay Brandenberg, 17:06, Mosinee; Dana Roach, 17:11, Lakeland; Mary Prunty, 17:16, Antigo; Megan Gwyn, 17:24, Northland Pines.

Honorable Mention— Ty Filipiak, 17:27, and Sarah Vils, 17:39, Mosinee; Kelsey Renn, 17:41, and Sara Maday, 17:42, Tomahawk; Hayley Walbeck, 17:42, Merrill.
