A Duffek Sand and Gravel crew worked on a big pour for the floor at the new Quinlan truck facilities just south of Antigo this morning.

Quinlan project moves ahead

Oct. 28, 2009

With a touch of winter in the late October air, a big crew is pouring and finishing concrete today at a new truck sales and repair facility for Quinlan Equipment on Antigo’s south side.

John Quinlan, who heads the family business that sells and services a wide range of mechanical equipment from International trucks to major farm implements and commercial and residential lawn and garden equipment, said the building will measure 15,500 square feet when completed, likely during the spring of 2010.

“When we started planning this expansion last year, our intentions were to increase the number of employees,” Quinlan said.

“However, since President Obama’s auto task force caused the elimination of our GMC franchise, our objective is to keep all of our current employees and add employees when and if our GMC franchise is reinstated.”

Quinlan stressed that the project is due to “our great customers and dedicated employees.” He also noted that it is being privately funded and done without any federal, state or local government grants, loans, bailout funds, stimulus money or taxpayer assistance.

The Quinlan organization operates the farm and lawn and garden business from a building on the west side of Highway 45, and for many years the truck sales, parts and repairs were conducted out of a structure on the east side of the road.

Quinlan explained that the truck building has been added to over the years and at nearly 50 years old, is in need of replacement.

He explained that over the years Highway 45 has been widened from two to four lanes and the level of the road raised, it made efficient operation of the busy International dealership more complex than it needed to be.

Quinlan said that in the planning process he and his family “looked at a lot of different things” before making the decision to build.

He said that the new complex will be far enough back from the road to allow sufficient outdoor displays, there will be an interior showroom and expanded parts area.

Construction of the building will likely get started when the rest of base has been poured.
