Halloween parade on Halloween this year Oct. 26, 2009 A pleasant quirk in the calendar will allow Antigo young ghosts and goblins to parade and collect treats on Saturday—the actual day of Halloween—this year.
Traditionally the Antigo Optimist Club holds its parade, with trick-or-treating afterwards, on the Sunday nearest to Halloween, meaning that often the celebration is far different from the date.
But with Halloween falling on a weekend this year, the decision was a simple one to move the parade to Saturday.
The parade will begin at 2 p.m. at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Morse Street and proceed east through downtown to Fifth Avenue and Field Street. Judges will award prizes for the best costumes and goodie bags with donations by the Optimists and Wal-Mart will be given to all participants.
Trick-or-treating will follow the parade. In addition, Faith Center will host its 13th annual fall festival at the Middle School until 4 p.m.
