Council approves sewer rates increases Oct. 9, 2008 On a unanimous vote, the Antigo Common Council approved a series of sewer rate increases that will cost the average homeowner an extra $7 a year.
At its regular monthly meeting Wednesday, aldermen inked rate increases that were first discussed at a committee of the whole session in September.
The deal calls for an increase in residential rates of about 2.5 percent, or $7 per year, based on a study completed by Ruekert-Mielke. The plan also calls for a larger rate increase for industries, using a three tier program based on the number of gallons discharged, and a $50,000 annual payment in lieu of taxes from the utility to the city’s general fund to help offset administrative costs.
Dollars will be earmarked for repairs and slip-lining of deteriorating pipes. The city plans to budget $550,000 annually for the next three years for the work.
In other business, aldermen approved new secondhand articles dealers licenses for Charles and Laura Braatz of Mojo Electronics, Cindy Dziamarski of Jammers LLC and David R. Quirk of Peeps Pawn Shop. In addition, Sembhi One, Inc., formerly Northside Mobil, will get the necessary beer and cigarette licenses to allow the station to reopen after being shuttered for several months.
In a bookkeeping matter, aldermen inked a resolution for $4.1 million in Industrial Revenue Bonds for Plaspack, which is refinancing bonds dating to 1998. The amount also includes $425,000 for new equipment.
Aldermen approved several appointments by Mayor Sam Hardin. They include Patty Shinners to the Library Board, and Dominic Warner and Michelle Brettingen to the Board of Review.
In other matters, aldermen:
—agreed to contribute $1,000 to the Langlade County Historical Society for publication of a walking map and brochure of 15 historical sites in and around downtown Antigo.
—directed city crews to place signs on Highway 45 directing individuals to the animal shelter.
—and hired Sarah Repp as Parks, Recreation and Cemetery supervisor at a salary of $42,914 annually. Director of Administrative Services Dale Soumis introduced Repp to aldermen, noting that she recently completed active military service and “we wanted to snap her up if we could.”
