Cheers for the crew building playground Good news isn’t hard to come by, you just have to know where to look, like down on Field Street.
Volunteers from all walks of the community—young and old, progressive and conservative—are gathering to build the children a new, 11,000 square foot playground and it will really be something.
The playground was designed by the children of Antigo and includes replicas of the things that make this place so special. There will be trains and teepees, barns and bridges of all sorts.
And in a day when more and more people look to taxpayers for funding, this project was financed totally by volunteers. The city is providing the site and some clean-up assistance, which had to be done anyway, but that it.
We love everything about this project. It’s being placed in a formerly blighted area that had few other possible uses, will serve as another anchor for downtown revitalization, and will provide an outstanding, distinctly low-tech venue for families to come together and romp and play outdoors.
Those folks banging nails and sawing 2x4s aren’t professionals. They are you and I, who regardless of political persuasion, are coming together to assure a bright future for Antigo. It’s a “community” playground in the best sense of the word.
How great.
