Antigo man cited for plotting murder

March 31, 2008

An Antigo man has been linked to an alleged murder-for-hire plot.

Chad Jorgensen, 36, stands accused of solicitation of first degree intentional homicide and today was ordered held in the Langlade County lockup on a $100,000 cash bond.

The charge, a felony, carries a prison term up to 12 1/2 years and $25,000 in fines. Making his appearance via a video link from a jail cell, Jorgensen was advised of his right to an attorney and was ordered to return to court next Monday.

In a four page criminal complaint drawn by District Attorney Ralph Uttke, law enforcement agents note recorded discussions between Jorgensen and an alleged hit man involving plans to kill Jorgensen’s ex-wife.

The detailed complaint includes references by Jorgensen that he wanted the woman dead and discussions involving payment and a possible exchange of weapons with a man he met in jail.

According to the report, Jorgensen had stated he “was thinking about getting a hit man” and over the next three weeks, he discussed his plans with a man who told police he had jokingly agreed to fill the position.

The informant told authorities that he and Jorgensen had “talked several times about the job,” including different options including mention of a wood chipper or chainsaw. In yet another taped conversation, Jorgensen made mention of purchasing a handgun in Milwaukee and in another said “I can get you a gun by as early as this weekend.”

The informant told police that Jorgensen agreed to give him photos of the intended victim along with partial payment with the rest to follow after the job was done.

There were also discussions over how to get away with the crime, including reference to a book Jorgensen had been reading involving a murderer who changed his identity.

“You might want to read the book, there might be some good ideas in it for you,” Jorgensen was quoted as saying.

In a taped conversation last week, Jorgensen brought the plan to a halt.

“I’m calling it off though,” Jorgensen said. “The only way this would really work out is if you went into hiding for a year.”

He went on.

“I’m just calling it off,” he said. “It seems like the timing and everything is off and, it’s going to come back to me. Bottom line it’s going to come back to me.”
