Antigo All-Star team earns state tournament berth July 28, 2010 Antigo’s 9 and 10-year old Little League All-Star squad posted a perfect 5-0 record as they were crowned the District 5 champions recently. The accolade will allow Antigo to make the trip to South Milwaukee starting Saturday and concluding Aug. 4 for the State Tournament. The top four teams will play Aug. 5-6 in the championship round.
vs. Wausau
Antigo posted a 21-0 victory over Wausau Nationals.
Utilizing three pitchers, A.J. Kirsch, Thomas Nelson and Adam Hilger combined for the no-hitter versus the Nationals. The trio issued four walks while recording seven strike outs.
The All-Stars pounded out 14 hits and were led by Matt Winter with three hits (2 doubles) and Brady Tatro, a triple and a double.
vs. Northwoods
Antigo once again paced by good pitching posted a 7-2 win over Northwoods.
Taking to the mound was Kirsch and Tatro. They combined on the two hitter, issued three walks and registered 11 strike outs.
The Antigo offense collected nine hits total and were led by Tyler Husnick (double) and Zach Jaje, each having two hits.
vs. D.C. Everest
Antigo battled the D.C. Everest Nationals in classic pitcher's duel, posting a 2-1 victory.
Antigo tied the game at one-all with a run in the fifth inning and won the game by adding one run in the sixth inning.
Toeing the rubber for Antigo was Kirsch and Luke Schroeder. The duo combined to allow three hits, issued one walk, while sending 12 Nationals down on strikes.
Antigo collected five hits, Winter paced the attack with two singles.
vs. Rhinelander
Matched up against Rhinelander, both teams were unbeaten at this point in the contests. Antigo beat Rhinelander 10-3, knowing the two teams would square off for a second time.
Once again Antigo sent out Kirsch and Schroeder to the mound. The duo combined to allow four hits, issued one walk, and recorded five strike outs.
Antigo’s offense pounded out five extra base hits for a total of nine hits.
Leading batters were Tatro (3 doubles), C.J. Levis, two hits (home run), Schroeder, two hits (double), and Ben Bartletti, two hits (double).
Title Matchup
Rhinelander was faced with a must win situation in the championship game, came up short as Antigo scored the 11-5 victory.
Strolling to the mound was Schroeder and Tatro, who allowed five hits, issued two walks and recorded four strike outs.
Antigo offense pounded out 14 hits led by Tatro with three (home run), Husnick three hits (double), Kirsch two hits (2 doubles), Levis two hits (double), Schroeder collected two singles, and Bartletti collected a double.
The Antigo squad is slated to take on the winner of the Division 2 bracket Saturday at 1 p.m. Continuing the tournament on Sunday, Antigo will face Eau Claire Nationals at 3 p.m., Lakeland Little League on Monday at 7:30 p.m., the Division 1 champs in round four on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and conclude action in round five on Wednesday in a 5:30 p.m. match against the Division 4 team.
