4-H fair opens here today

The Langlade County Youth Fair grounds were quiet this morning, anticipating the opening of judging at noon.

Youngsters were carrying in their exhibits, the food stands were being prepped and in the cattle barn showmen were polishing their pigs for tonight’s swine judging beginning at 6 p.m.

The fair relies on a cadre of volunteers for its success.

Judy Theilman is president of the Langlade County 4-H Leaders Association, 4-H Board of Directors and Fair Board, with Kyle Parsons as vice-president.

Rounding out the board are Sally Hull, secretary, Becky Gleich, treasurer, Rhonda Klement and Dena Burkhart, fair coordinators, Dave Solin, ag and extension representative, and Beau Gabriel, Ann Boshan, Heather Fillion, Kathy Bowman and James Petrosky.

Youth representatives are Jacob Theilman, Cody Parsons, Angel Schmidt and Zach Luerssen.

The Cooperative Extension System staff includes Alex Crockford, ag agent; Dawn Doperalski, 4-H youth development; Jennifer Smith, family living; Kari Lazers, Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program coordinator, Beth Meyer, family nutrition educator and Sally Hull, office coordinator.

4-H Ambassadors are Rachel Rine, Courtney Yarie, Cody Parsons, Brittany Webb, Joshua Karolus, John Karolus, Abby Michels, Zach Luerssen, Joseph Reineke and Clair McDougal.

Each fair department also has a chairman. The list includes:

—Dairy, goat: Mary Schmoll, Judy Kostelny.

—Beef, sheep, swine, market animal: Todd Lucht, Vinnie Klimek.

—Horses: Alison Nelson, Marisa Kohler.

—Poultry: Leona Zaverousky.

—Rabbits: Holly and Chad Luerssen.

—Llamas: Dave Kuhr.

—Plant and soil science: Adeline Hess, Luella Fleischman, Karen Prunty, Patsy Doleshal.

—Dogs: Mary and Emily Curran.

—Cats: Nancy Jarchow.

—Antiques: Diane Kohn, Kim Joseph.

—Animal science, vet science, natural science, woodworking, electricity, mechanical science, youth leadership, health, safety, stamps: Andy and Stephanie Bures, Rose Dolezal.

—Exploring, Cloverbuds, Adventures in Dairyland, club booths: Kathy Teal.

—Arts and crafts, music, drama, puppets: Gail Kamps, Carol Jira, Toni Fleischman.

—Food, food preservation: Kari Lazers.

—Clothing: DeLores Borneman.

—4-H Clothing Revue: Judy Kostelny.

—Knitting, crocheting, home environment, child development: DeLores Borneman.
